Suggest you go to Wallmart and buy a battery tender for about $18.00 and leave on for the winter. The charger cuts off when battery is full and comes on if the charge starts to fall. I have used one for 2 yrs now on a C-5 so if a good day comes along, the battey is ready to go.
Always disconnect the negative first as a basic safety measure. If you are storing the car in a cold area, you should remove the battery and store it in an area where the temperature doesn't fall below -40F (to prevent the electrolyte from freezing). Top off the charge once a month.

This is a great idea if you are storing you car where electricity is available. Unfortunately, however, I'll be storing my C6 in a garage where electricity is not available. So, if I disconnect or remove the battery for winter, what will I have to "re-program" (fobs, radio stations?) come next spring?

Just the window indexing, everything else is held in nonvolatile memory.
