Default Question for those with Intake

Hey guys, I thinking of getting either the K&N or the Stinger intake. My question is, do you keep the primary (rain guard) cover on over the intake? Because I know that the factory rubber hood seal will not keep the water out. Since removing the factory airbox will probably prevent the primary cover to stay put. Im wondering how many of you guys have the primary cover on? and how do you keep it on over the aftermarket intake. Thanks

I have the Halltech and no problems with any water ingestion as not a bottom breather and you would need to submerse the entire filter in water. On their site, their is a funny video with Jim literally hosing down the filter and then taking you for a ride.

I removed all the covers. The filters are exposed-no trouble yet.

The problem with removing the stock cover is that the filter housing will hold water. Whereas the Stinger does not have a solid bottom to hold the water in. I can't remember who but someone posted having trouble with this on a stock setup. My stock intake is in storage in the garage so I can't go outside and verify if this is correct.

I'm debating the same two intake setups. Not because I need an extra 10hp, but frankly because the stock intake appears pretty flimsy.

The Halltech Stinger appears to be a better setup with better breathing for the engine even without the rain guard. It's a closed system with better seals. However, I'm not sure it's worth the $399 on the website, so I'm still looking. Let me know what you decide.

Doesnt Halltech have a standing discount for forum members? I would call out there and see what he might be willing to let one go for if you decide to go that way. I also saw it somewhere or other for 369 just recently so Im thinking you ought a be able to get it for less than the 399 price.

I did a before and after dyno with the stock unit vs the K&N filter replacing the stock filter with no gain. (That is the K&N filter element in the stock intake system) I got around 10 with the Halltech but it's NOT the peak one should be looking at it is the delta above 6K that is impressive, nearly 25 rwhp. Now by increasing the rev range, via LS2 edit, to 6800 one gets to realize the gain.

This is the stock run it's in STD but the comparison is what you need to look at. 001 and 002 were done within minutes stock, apparently the engine likes to be hot.

This with not only the K&N but the GM performace exhaust thrown in.

The last one is with Halltech and LS2 edit.
