Is it still a good idea to change out the factory battery like I did in my 2004 ZO6 due to the possibility of it leaking on the computer, or did chevrolet fix this problem?
thanks,
Lusky
C6 Z51 will take delivery in 11 hours
That's the one thing I haven't heard happening on here w/stock batteries.Of course, regular batteries can leak, optimas and those kind don't from what I hear.Mine stock one is fine.
The C5 changed to an AGM (gell-type) battery for model year 2001. After that I never heard of any battery leaks that damaged anything. Maybe it happened a few times but it must have been pretty rare.
When GM changed from side terminal to top, they also changes suppliers from Delphi to JCI. Since then JCI purchased Delphi's battery group, but I would keep the stock battery unless you plan to put an Optima in it (I am putting one in my 2006, Z51). GM changed from BCI batteries to DIN in 2006 (2005 uses a group 86 BCI type) on the C6, so the cables ends have big bends on them to fit the DIN cover.
AGM batteries and gell batteries are not the same thing. True AGM will not leak, and gell have material added to the acid to make it thick, so they can still leak.
Also, don't blame the battery if your 2005 C6 has a dead battery one morning, it is the car not the battery.
So all 2005 GM batteries were good and there were no defective batteries in 05. GM need's to patent this and make a fortune.
That's not what I said, what I said was that if the battery in your 2005 C6 goes dead when the car is this new, look for vehicle issues not battery issues.

FYI GM has replaced many defective batteries in 2005 Corvettes. There was a run of them early in the model year. One member had his replaced last week.
Just because the battery is replaced doesn't mean the battery is bad. If the amount of batteries that I read about being replaced in Corvettes were "bad" batteries, the battery supplier would be out of business.
Trust me there are other issues that are killing batteries.

Your right other issues are killing batteries. In addition bad batteries come from the factory. It happen's with all automobiles. It's a fact and can not be denied.
GM discontinued the AGM battery in 2003 and regressed to the top post battery. The AGM battery I put in my 2000 C-5 lasted about 18 months. Replaced it with an optima because GM had discontinued it by then. Still have an AGM in my truck for at least two years now. Harley Davidson uses an AGM battery very successfully, but apparently GM couldn't figure it out and make it work.
GM still uses AGM is a couple of high end Buicks and Pontiac, but they use a different supplier now, than before.
I have Opitma in my wife and kids cars, because I am the person they call when the car doesn't start, even thouigh their cars have "road side assistance".
