Im sure this has been asked, but how many miles does the DIC tell you to change oil at?
I know some people changes every 3k, etc, but I just wanna know what the DIC says... its hard to tell from %, not sure if its linear...
The "% oil life remaining" displayed in the DIC is based upon a combination of engine time, operating temperatures, load, "mileage", plus a couple of other factors collected by the on-board ECM (engine control module). For normal driving (whatever that is), you should get between 8,000 & 10,000 miles. HOWEVER, many of us belong to the old school thinking of "an oil change is cheap engine insurance". Even with Mobil 1, I personally change oil at around 5,000 miles.

How much water do people usually drink a day? What's that, it varies from one person to the next?
Well, maybe the mileage between oil changes does too. Your owner's manual will tell you to use the DIC to decide when, but it will also tell you that you need to change it at least once a year.
Here's an example with science behind it. I drove the C6 until the DIC said to change it. We sampled the used oil and sent the sample off to Blackstone Labs. The sample data came back and the oil had plenty of life left in it. No abnormal wear metals. We ran the car at Laguna Seca once during that interval. The DIC went to almost 0% at ~10,500 miles.
