Default Zinc Or Cadium rotor Plating ?

I am have a set of C6 Z06 rotors sent out locally to be either Zinc plated or cadium
Which one should i go with ?
I am sick of the rust on my z51 setup and i figure it will be the way to go
Has anyone here done this ?

I think the cadium would work. I saw on another thread where they cleaned them in a tub of acid, then used metal prep and painted them silver. looked good and cost around $ 20.00

I detailed my car last night, and I got to tell you...plated rotors are beginning to look very worthwhile.

Either zinc or cad will work fine, but because of environmental regs, zinc plating may be easier to find locally and/or cheaper. Almost any kind of plating in the US is now becoming expensive because of the environmental liability. In the past, when both metals were easy to have plated, GM specified both finishes...In fact, some old GM drawings indicated "either or", and left the plating selection (zinc or cad) to the part supplier.

BTW, TommyV had his rotors and caliper brackets cad plated. Do a search on his name in C6 General for the last six months...a thread or two should show up. His set-up looks veerrrry nice.

Yep, I had Z51's cad plated. I think cad looks better than zinc and is suppose to last much longer. If you can't find a local place to do the cad, PM me for a place in San Diego. $110.

Hey, Tommy, I see you've got your antenna turned on. Is that $110 per rotor? Including the caliper bracket?

I've wondered how your guy got plating down into the cooling vane passages. If it's actually plated down inside, it takes a tricky set-up to get the current density to plate inside hidden areas. Did he explain how he managed that? His experience with this may warrant me taking a look.

That's $110 for everything. I'm not sure how far it goes inside, but I'm sure it's far as any water would go.

Get them plated, you'll love it. Zinc or Cad doesn't really matter, I've owned both and can't tell the difference at all. Zinc is easier to find, Cad is rare because it's a cancer causer. I paid $25 per rotor for zinc.

How is this done? Powder coating? Where do you find the material? If powder coated, I'll assume I can get a powder coat shop to do it; if not, how do you do it?

You can do zinc plating yourself. Look for Oxysolve at eastwood.com.

That's a zinc-phosphate conversion coating, not plating. It's an excellent base for paint, a lousy final protection layer.

I was thinking this stuff would remove rust then leave a zinc phosphate to prevent additional rust. Got the info off the C6 FAQ / mod list.

You may have to do that about every six months.
