I am curious if anyone on this site has hooked up an amplifier to the base model factory head unit. I am getting ready to install an amplifier for my subwoofer and just thought I would see if anyone had any suggestions or tips for me. I am pretty sure the Bose system needs some sort of special adapter, but I am not sure about the base model stereo. Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

To install an amp with a subwoofer you just need to hook up one wire from each of the rear speakers for the signal, the rear speakers are not Bose on the C6 nor the C5 for that matter.
What kind of speaker are you running? Did you look at the Bazooka with amp built in? I'm looking to install one on my C6 I had one on my C5.
If your doing all the channels with aftermarket amps, get an Audio Control LC6. You can run your front and Sub output to the LC6 and get a level matched output that can be used sepperately, or combined for a single full range output for a DSP/EQ unit for filtering what the amps get.
Get the JL what? I already built my own custom sub box and I am running one 12" MTX sub with a Jensen amplifier. Don't I need some sort of RF module or something? I have never installed an amp to a factory radio before, so I could use some more details.
I am going to mount the amp in the compartment on the driver side of the sub.

Are those Bazooka's any good? I've never heard one...had a JL StealthBox in my other vehicles but it doesn't look like there is room for one in the C6 so I'm looking for alternatives at this point...
You can get the Audio Control LC6. You may want to look at the C6 FAQ section. Lots of great info on adding aftermarket components to the factory system.
Thanks DL, I will see what I can find. As for Jensen being well below average, I agree! But I am just using the amp temporarily because I have it, and when I get some extra $$$ will upgrade. Also, I am not looking to blast the rear window out with bass I just want a bit more than stock so a FREE amp will work for now!

They are very good for Jazz, Rock, and they are small and unobstrusive. Enough boom to shake the mirrors. Not enough to make you feel like you are in a sound vibrator...
If you like rap... then forget it, they will not work well.
I've used them for years and have been very pleased with them.
I did some research on both the CleanSweep and the LC6. The CleanSweep costs around $350, and has good sound quality. The LC6 is aroung $150, and is capable of the same sound quality. The CleanSweep has a larger range of input voltage from the radio, but you can not adjust the inputs to balance between "line level" and "Pre-amp" input so they come out the other side at the same volume level. The LC6 can be manually adjusted to achieve that balance. The outputs of the LC6 can also be wired together to create on full range output pair.
The factory sub signal is pre-amp level at the output side of the factory amp, and can be sent directly into the aftermarket amplifier input. I would still use LC6 to better adjust the signal to match the aftermarket amp inputs.
I don't see the benefit of the additional $200 for something you don't need for doing only a add-on sub. I'd put that money towards a decent amp and speakers to replace the factory door speakers.
