Default Vararam install pics

I installed the Vararam CAI yesterday. I took about 2 hours to complete. I installed the throttle body spacer & followed the instructions(retighten after a 5 minute heat soak). It never felt like it was tight but it smashed a good bit after heating the engine. I popped the hood later and I noticed it was smashed out at the top & really didn't look like it would seal good. I decided to remove it permanently & I don't see how it would help anyway.

What about the problem I had, it smashed all the way out at the top?

I think that you were tightening it way to far! I tightened it until it started to pooch all the way around evenly and then stopped. Haven't had a problem!

remember, there is no Pressure on the inlet side, just a little vacuum. The parts don't need to be very tight, "just" tight enough to prevent vacuum leaks.

That does NOT mean I endorse the product. It would be nice if they provided a torque spec, even if it is very low.

I know have about 200 miles since the install. My friend and I took it on the interstate last night to test it. The car seems to pull alot stronger expecially at highway speeds. I plan to go to the track but they are closed till Janurary 2nd so I will have to wait a while.

BTW, I put the throttle body spacer back on & did not overtighten & everything looks OK now.

I know that installing the intake is a pain and time consuming, but what about removing it and putting it back to stock? The reason I ask is that I was initially set on the Halltech intake (not cai) because it can be installed/removed in 5 minutes. This is essential for us California C6 owners who have to get their vehicles smogged every 2 years. If the Vararam intake can be removed and reinstalled in a relatively short amount of time, then that would be great!

in ca your c6 will not have to be smogged for 5 years and your car will pass smog with a cai for sure

you can put a mild cam and a supercharger on a c6 and still pass smog!

but if you are worried about smog dont do what i did!

What about the visual inspection? Doesn't the intake need to have a CARB number to pass?
