Can anyone give me any insight on changing out my stock header to some b&b's? Is it fairly straight forward or are there alot of other things that need to be taken off to gain access.
I do not reconize the name B&B as headers, could you mean cat backs? In any case, both can be done yourself if you have some mechanical knowledge. Cat backs would be less challenging, but still you need some know how and experience to get the job done properly. Good luck with what ever you decide.
My advice, move everything out of the way, then you'll have plenty of room. By everything I mean alternator, spark plugs/wires, coil packs, valve covers etc. On long-tubes, it helps to remove the starter also.
These cars tease you: it will look like the headers will slide right in, but often you need just that last little bit that you gain by getting everything out of the way.
B&B's short headers may not require moving everything, so follow their directions. But if in doubt, move the stuff as suggested.
Thanks guys, since I am sentanced to the garage untill spring, i think ill give it a try. Any thoughts on my choice vs. kooks possibly ? As i read through the forum it seems like they (kooks) are pretty popular.
The shorties and the Kooks both install from the bottom without moving anything at all. I removed my passenger header in 6 minutes from start to out to weld on a bung just 2 weeks ago. It went back in in 15 minutes running. Get the car 16-18 inches high.
The shorties should take an hour start to finish by an experienced mechanic with the hardest part of the install being the moving of the O2 sensor from the exhaust manifolds to the new headers. 6 bolts on each header and 2 bolts to each of the cats. All very accessible.
