Default A4 to A6 swap

How feasible would taking an A4 out and putting an A6 be?
Also, can the console shifter be changed to one like STS/XLR so you can shift "manually"? I've got 3:15 rears. Was thinking about cam and s/c, longtubes & bigger rubber. Put on some ZO6 rear fenders to absorb the bigger meats.
Now the question is... Have fun playing with all this, OR continue to wait for my ZO6 that I'm "supposed" to be next in line for. What do think guys? (be kind, it's almost xmas & I want new toys to play with)

I wouldn't make the swap, you can make an A4 perform very well (torque converter/tuning) and it's just not cost effective at all because the rear and torque tube might be slightly different between '05 and '06 automatics plus there might be PCM/tuning issues.
Headers, heads and cam, forced induction and even some Z06 body parts might be fun though.

Might come out ahead trading in. You got to buy the trans, control modules, associated plumbing, shifter, etc. One of those deals where ya have to ask yourself how bad ya want it.

with crabman. It's probably worth it to just trade the car.

Anything is possible if you have enough money to spend. But there are a number of issues to consider. First is that there are as yet very few wrecked 06 A6 cars. So it will be difficult to procure a A6 tranny. Production hasn't ramped up enough to exceed new car requirements, so ordering one across the parts counter isn't an option.

Its really quite easy actually. You trade your 05 for an 06. Swapping transmissions after only one year is such an expensively bad idea, not to mention the loss in resale value. If you were buying a vette and someone told you they swapped a transmission for a newer model, wouldn't you have concerns, ie quality of work, lack of warranty etc.

Have you driven an A6 yet? I like mine, but if I didnt have it, I wouldnt trade out a A4 for it. Knowing what I know now. not that its not nice, but not that much better IMO!

Thanks for the reply guys. sorry for not getting back sooner. been away. Anyway, the only reason for a swap, would be be for the fun factor and maybe a little stronger rear in the 06 if I went that route. Speaking of which, if I went with the 06 coupe A6, can the console be changed to one like STS/XLR? I'd rather shift that way. I know, I know, get a 6speed manual. I just think a console shifted A6 gives you the best of all worlds. If given the option, i'd order my ZO6 that way. Just my .02cents.

Yes I have . I liked it, but was'nt real up on paddles. You don't shift a ZO6 on the steering wheel,(they got rid of that kind of shifting along time ago, thank goodness) so put the thing where it belongs. KnowwhatImean?

No, but you do shift a Ferrari or an F1 racer like that.

Wait for the Z06. You will still be working on it when the Z06 comes in.
