Need some advice/info on torque converters. I have an 05 A4 with 3:15 gears, Kooks Long tube Headers, High Flow Cats and Cross over pipe with Corsa Sport Exhaust and Honker air intake.
1. What is the best Torque converter upgrade, Brand, etc?
2. Will I get any bang for the buck if I just do the Torque converter and not change the gears?
3. If I just do the Torque converter and not the gears, will I need to retune the computers again to reflect the converter change?

1. Probably that Yank SS 3200. It was real successful in the C5s with 3.15 gears.
2. Unless you are going to 3.73s or lower, keep the 3.15s. Not enough of a difference going from 3.15 to 3.42 IMO.
3. In all likelihood yes to account for the increased slip of the new torque converter. I know this was true with the C5.
Of course all of this is going to depend on what you are trying to do in the first place.

Hey there....
Here's what we do in our shop.....
My package is the Pro Torque (what he calls 24-2700) converter. (don't go higher unless you've upgraded your engine...
A STEEL drive plate. Trans Go shift kit..(and other internal mods to the trans)
and we put 3.90's in all our A4's....
The combo of the converter and the 3.90's makes AWESOME performance, and it still cool with the operating range of the stock motor....

Chuck CoW
I happen to agree with what ChuckCoW. I just question if you really want to do that with a daily driver. The car is going to be a killer from 0-60, but you will have sacrifies at the othe other end.

You are correct, but I believe the sacrifices are minimal...
How much time do you spend in gears 1-3? NOT MUCH...you're in 4th before you know it.
Additionally, the pcm locks the converter (unless you're WOT, with no slip or stall at all) in second, third, and 4th....No slip = no extra rpms....gears will give extra rpm's....also, with the gears, you don't have to step as far down on the pedal to get the same performance as before, so sometimes mileage is increased slightly. this saves some fuel.
I agree that there are trade offs...but they are minimal...
In out shop we are always doing the 3.90 / torque converter swap and I have not heard one person bitch about mileage...Nothin but **** eatin grinns!
