Bought 2006 C6 and have noticed when shifting from neutral to drive or neutral to reverse there is a one to two second delay before transmission engages. Is this because the trans is in the rear or is there something that needs looking at?

I noticed the same scenerio with my 2006 c6. Have only had it since Christmas Eve, and just 60 miles. Thought I was being to paranoid. When put in D, gave gas, slight delay felt, similar to a slip. Didn't notice it when I used the Paddle. Cautiously optomistic, will watch the forum for constructive input, put some miles on it , and post anything new.

Mine also takes longer to engage than any other auto I have ever had. I don't know if you are experiencing the 'gear hunting' problem yet but you might be interested in reading this thread in Ken's Professional News area
My car (with 800 miles) has done the same thing since new. If you are trying to go from reverse-to-neutral-to-drive in a hurry to get your car out of the way of some fast driving idiot in a parking lot, for example, it can be annoying. When put into "drive", you need to wait a second before it "hooks up". It will briefly freewheel and then bang into gear (like any automatic with low fluid).
Fluid level is difficult to check since there is no dipstick. GM claims the trans fluid lasts almost forever and that the computer compensates for wear during the life of the trans. Seems like they use the old "fill it until oil comes out of the top pipe plug hole" method to check the level.
I like everything else about the trans - especially how there is uninterrupted power flow to the rear wheels since you are not de-coupling the engine from the drive wheels with a clutch when shifting.

I now have 1600 miles on it and in general like the A6. Smooth as silk, but I would like it more firm shifting in "S".

I find with mine, the harder I get on it the harder it shifts.
Have found NO lag in shifting and I can count the shifts.
Hopefully I got a good one for a change.

Seems to be the way it works with my A6. Once it's in gear it's not a problem.
I just bought a '06 C6 w X51.To be honest the paddleshifter leaves a lot to be desired.I am having a 1 to 2 second delay in gears switch. Is everybody having this problem.I called GM they said it's normal but the whole answer was given to me in 60secs from making the call.If I am shifting at 6000 rpm the response time is imperative.Anybody else having this problem?
