Default Wheel Update

I spoke to my dealer this week. He called me to let me know the build date of my car will be January 3. He also informed me that the car will come through with painted wheels. I ordered the aluminum polished. He said that the MSRP will be adjusted. This is not a big deal because I want chrome wheels anyway and will change the painted to the chrome when I receive the car.

West Coast Corvette does the exchange quickly and it worked well for me that the wheels were at the dealer before the car was delivered. They look great.Rad

I ordered a C6 MN6 Z51 last week. I wanted polished wheels but didn't waste my time ordering them having read about the lack of availability. I've been thinking about the chrome wheel exhange through West Coast Corvettes. There was a post recently in which someone complained about the chrome not holding up or peeling on the inside of the wheel. Is this common or just the exception? Does anyone know anything about the 10 spoke wheels in the Chevrolet Genuine Accessories brochure?

I have heard that many people have had chrome peeling problems no matter who the manufacturer is. Take a look at CCW wheels. They make good wheels for corvettes and are inexpensive. The high pollished wheels are almost as bright as chrome and they don't have the peeling problem.

Have CCW SP20's on mine. Polished forged aluminum alloy. Go to ccwheel.com and open the gallery for a look at their C6 products.

I have no interest in Chromed or polished wheels. I think the standard painted wheels look great. I think polished or chromed wheels are a US thing. Coming from two Europeon cars, painted wheels are the norm. Maybe it has rubbed off, but for me I think it is a personal preference. So getting to my point:

In my business, I have come across products that have been factory chromed (mostly nickeled) and after market same. My personal option, if prepared properly, there is no reason why there should be any pealing of the finish. It is like rust, if the surface is not prepared properly, than you will have problems (pealing). If the metal is clean of impurities there is no reason why there should be any pealing - period.

Right, a good chrome job should hold up. A good job means they polished the substrate, cleaned it scrupulously, laid down a copper plate, polished, cleaned scrupulously, laid down a nickel plate, polished, cleaned scrupulously, and finally laid down the chrome.

The guys doing the polishing and cleaning often don't get paid much, it is a horrible job, and sometimes they don't take as much care as they should, thus you get a lousy chrome job that won't hold up. A good vendor will take care of you in that situation, a bad one won't.

I had a set of Chrome "reporductions" on my C5's for over two years, and have several friends with chome (either reproduction or factory wheels that had been chromed). None of us has had problems with the Chrome.

As far as CCW's - I like them, but since when is $3,000 (wheels, shipping, mounting) for a set of wheels "inexpensive".

I just bought a set of CCW wheels with brand new Good Year Run Flats mounted and balanced for about $3500.00. I think thats a great deal compared to $7500.00 for a set of HRE's wheels with no tires.

I'm not trying to start a pissing contest here, but that's like saying that a Ford GT is a great deal compared to an Enzo. It hardling qualifies as being "inexpensive".

How much of the $3500 would you have to spend just for the tires?

I agree with you. Flash chroming is not what I prefer altho some products seem to hold up well.

I like chroming done just like shopdog said. Done properly it should last a very long time. Once damaged though there isn't a lot to do about it.

Isn't there a problem in some states with waste products though? Just asking.

I don't know any of the details on that. The best price I have seen on the CCW's is about $2400. That does not include shipping and mounting - which would likely be at least another $300. Seeing as how I don't need new tires, the question has no relevance. If you are telling me I can buy the wheels for $2,000 or less, then the question has more relevance.

I have to agree that CCW is not at the highest end of wheel quality, but its a great wheel for the price. They back up their product and the wheels look great. I have heard lately that three piece wheels start to come apart with extreme stress appiled. I will post a photo as soon as I get the wheels mounted.

As for the price, I paid $2600 for the wheels and $900 for the tires with trade-in of my old tires which had 7k miles on them. This includes mounting and balance. I thought it was a good deal.

Feedback please!!!
