Default Locked out

Always keep my fob in my pants pocket. Long story short: it ends up in my jacket which I for some reason I chose this day to throw in the trunk and slam the lid. Go to open car door, nada. Trunk: nada. Too lazy to have filed down a key yet for the wallet so I call the wife and tell her she'll need to drive the 30 miles to my office to bring me fob #2.

Five minutes later, I remember I have Onstar. Call wife, tell her to stay home. Call Onstar, 5 minutes later my lights flash and I'm in. Sweet.

That's kind of scary knowing they can remotely unlock a car like that. That's one of many reasons why I do not have nor, want Onstar on any car I own. If GM makes good on its threat to equip all their vehicles after the '06 model yr. as such, I will simply sever its power and transmitting cables. This includes XM

Why? (1) They asked cogent and unrelated questions that would be difficult to answer unless you were me -- and the VIN wasn't the starting point. You'd have a hard time reading the VIN off a windshield and calling Onstar expecting to get help with only that info.
(2) If someone fooled them, the perp still has to start the car to steal it once they're in. No easy task.
(3) The remote downside of having GM wrongly unlock my car was way worth it to me when my wife didn't have to make a 60 mile trip to bail my *** out.
(4) And if they ever call 911 for me when my airbags deploy, I'll do one of their hokey commercials for free.

I drive safely. I have nothing to fear from Onstar.

I'm glad you got some good use out of OnStar but it's not for me either, enough gadgets for me in the car as it is.

This Onstar thing has been covered many times. Some like it and, some don't. I belong to the latter group.

I just keep an extra key in a magnetic holder on the car. No worries since the car can't be started with the key alone anyway.

Default Onstar

The only thing I can think is wrong with a $55,000.00 car, is that it can be bought without Onstar. The cars phone works where most cell phones don't and I can get emergency help activated in seconds. Big brother can check me out anytime, even GW can tapp my phone if they don't have anything better to do. JMO

Why did GM not just stick with the old key as it never fails.

I've had ONSTAR om vehicles for 6 years. It works great if you locked your keys in your car, you're in a bad accident or it's stolen. I don't really get the Big brother paranoia but find it humerous.

On star to the rescue. Next time wife to the rescue, feeling stupid.

So I don't have to fish around in my pocket looking for the key when I've got my hands full. Also because it's the 21st century.

I'm not worried about Big Brother. It's the black helicopters that scare me.

Default Use your cell phone!

Actually, if you get locked out and your spare is at home, call home and have someone hold the extra remote to the phone while you hold your cell phone to the window. Have them push the unlock button on the remote. Presto, the doors will unlock.

I didn't believe it either when I heard it so I tried it. It does work on the C6. I did it with both a cell and the land line from the house to my cell.

Maybe GM should install keyless entry (keypad) on the door.

Too hung over and lazy to search, but there was a thread on this recently where a member claims to have tried this and it did not work. I would like to see a video of this - tho it would be easy to fake. Besides, I can use my phone to call onstar - and that does work!
