Default C6 or C6Z?

hi all, i've been at a corvette dealer here where i live at the moment in Spain 'cause i wanted to order a C6Z but the guy just received the price, never saw one, doesnt have any idea how many he'll be receiving through the year but worst of all he does not know when he'll receive one at all (then if i pretend to choose color i could wait ages ) so i was thinking maybe i could get a Z51 C6 and then add a few mods like long headers fm LG with no cats, sport corsa mufflers, air filter and after the first run in period also a new cam and heads. does it worthwhile all this or better wait whatever for the C6Z, costs at the end of the day adding cam/heads tuning exhausts etc etc maybe will be no difference, or am i wrong. need your plentiful and open advices.
thanks

No matter what you do it will won't be a Z06. I, like many, am waiting to see if I can get a Z06. If not, I will install supercharger on my 05. So it's a waiting game for now.

I drove a Z06 at the track and wasn't at all impressed. I've driven more than my share of high HP cars, and expected a more dramatic ride.

I'd get the C6 and do a few mods. If you don't like the steel framed C6, then you won't like the Z06. Other than the extra power, they feel exactly the same.

C6Z cost from 81.000 euros (germany) to 88.500 euros (spain)...the C6 standard but with Z51 optional included is 66.000 euros (1 euro is 1.21 usd)...

well david, i thought both had to be stripped and modded anyway but of course the C6Z alu frame on my opinion was making the difference...also the blk of the Z is said to be quite harder to beat then the standard...donno i'm a bit confused now

If you can afford the Z06 get it.
Despite what people say, they would do the same.

I have to disagree...I can afford either and chose the Z51 C6...
I say C6 and use the money saved to mod it... I have the same amount of money as a base C6Z in mine (total) and I am MUCH happier with my decision...620rwhp vs 460rwhp no brainer...

Mr Big, don't you think you are a tad low on horsepower?

I also disagree. I drove a new Z-O6 and was not that impressed. I had A&A drop a stroker in my C-6. 518 rwhp / 498 rwt. My car has much better performance than the Z, the roof comes off and I prefer the Z-51 ride to the Z. I called several dealers for pricing on the Z and was turned off with their attitude and "market price" nonsense.

I thought the Z-06 road noice was excessive.

Affordibility does not necessarily determine good purchase decisions.

First off, that is too much power, your motor has a very limited life ahead of it. But it will be exceptionally fun to drive in the meantime.

Now the math....
C6 50,000
Supercharger 8,000
Clutch 1,500
Stronger rear 2,500
Larger rims/tires 2,500
Headers 1,500
Exhaust 1,000
Total WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY 67k
Z06 75k WITH FULL WARRANTY

Resale
Z06 70K
C6 45K

Congratulations you saved 8k, only to lose 18K

Spend all you want to mod a C6, it will NEVER be a Z06 or worth nearly as much.

What is it with the Z51 guys, not only do they think they are better than F55's but also Z06's

I am NOT,and DO NOT, pretend to be better than anyone, anywhere... I just did not agree with what you posted... As for the comments, you have your right, to your opinion, if putting others down for their choices/opinions is what you wish to do, go for it... I just try to help my corvette brothers, not put them down for their choices... and give my opinion when asked... the question in the topic of the post was C6 or C6Z, I gave my opinion as you did...
Sorry to those reading this post, for "going off topic"...

I decieded to order the Z06 more for the better looks than the c6 coupe than for performance.

When Gm made the 05 coupe i loved the new design over the C-5 but i new if GM would of just tweaked with the body just a little bit more here and there they would have nailed it.

Well when GM showed the new Z06 i said DAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GM nailed it every area that i did not like on the coupe was addresed on the new Z06.

1. 3.3 inches wider at the fenders FRONT & REAR, AWESOME
2. 1.0 inch more overhang on the front bumper, AWESOME
3. Popout side vents with the Z06 emblem, AWESOME
4. Wider & longer front bumper opening just like the C6R, AWESOME
5. 427 with 505HP 0-60 in 3.7 0-150 in 17.9 AWESOME

I was going to order the 06 Z-51 Coupe but with all the constraints on Z-51 and after watching the Z06 on the speed channel several times i put a deposit on the 07 Z06.

That makes sense to me.

For some the targa top would be another reason they go with c6 versus z06. I suppose similar to why some people buy the vert over the coupe.

The three cars give us great aesthetic choices. I can see it being easy picking one purely based on that.

have fun!

Jeremy,

You took this the wrong way...
I was not putting you or your car down, I love your setup and would love to have it.
I've owned a C5 for years and have seen more than my fair share of blown SC'd engines. Once they got past about 525 RWHP, they had numerous problems. Maybe the LS2 is more durable, time will tell.
I wish you luck and hopefully you will have no problems at all. But in no way did I want to put our setup down, it rocks I'm jealous of it.

Also, the post was not aimed at you specifically, I was only rebutting part of your quote, not all of it. Didn't want to make you mad, just trying to make a point.

I had a Z06 and tons of guys put alot of money into their C5's trying to equal its performance, sure you can make it as fast and faster, but its simply not the same. Also most of them said it would have been cheaper to just get a Z06 in the first place.

Strongly recommend a Z06, especially in Italy. Will be hard finding a place over there that is experienced with making mods to a corvette. Plus, dealerships in foreign countries tend to invalidate the warranty in a heartbeat if you do any mods. At least with a Z06, your covered.

Two points - do you want straight ahead speed or speed for the track? I think you can mod your c6 for much less than the additional cost if you are more concerned with only straight ahead speed and not for the track. I think that is where you get the value on the z06 - more for the handling.

Oh - yeah another big issue - do you want a removable top? I lived in Spain and loved the climate. You could get good use out of a removable top. C6 has one while z06 has a top that is not removable.

On another note - you are being robbed on the price of your vette. A friend of mine from Norway said he could purchase a car here & after a period ship it to europe with minimal penalties. Could be a way to save you serious money as loaded c6 here is about $55K us which is about about 20K less euros...

No doubt the Z06 is what I would buy if performance was the top consideration. I have the coupe Z51 becuase I like the top flexibilty that you do not get with the Z06. If they every offer a removal dual top in the future for the Z06 I will order one.
Good luck.
