Has any body had problems with the Blackwing air intake, I have Just installed it on my 2006 m6? First it doesn't seem to fit right I had to force it a little to get it in and then it doesn't fit down on the origional mounting pins, The connection at the MAFS doesnt seem to fight right, and the car now has a surge or miss at low speeds, I ran it about 200 miles this weekend thinking the computer would adjust but it has not. I have had the Blackwing on my C5 and never had a problem. Any Ideas?
I did double check the lower mounting bracket and it is in correct.
Thanks

you might have a vaccum leak with the fitment issue as you described. good luck
One of these CAI's had an issue a while back where it was easy to install it upside down or backwards or something. Got any pics of how it is installed right now?
I don't have any picks but there is really only one way it can go in. If the lower mounting bracket is turned around you cannot even come close to getting it installed, I tried.
Thanks for the reply

i think you are right its in the placement of the trottle body or mass air maybe

I had no problem with my install. If you are surging or missing then you some how have managed to get a leak on the side of the mass flow that is facing the intake. I would suggest you remove the Blackwing airbridge at the clamp. Then go to the clamp closest to the intake, first making sure the hose is on then tighten up. Do the same with the next clamp (flex connection to airbridge.) Try starting the car and you should have no idle/low speed surge. In essence you are running without an air filter. Prior to making the flex connection to the air bridge, secure the air bridge to the stock mounting points using the stock grommets. Now the hard part. Push the flex back toward the MAF until you can get it onto the airbridge. Takes some patience but it will slide on. Let me know how you make out

Mine runs fine, but I also can't get it to fit onto the mounting pins either. The SLP airbridge is a POS IMHO, I had a gap on the passenger side where it is split and attaches to the throttle body.

Now I don't feel so bad, I have company. I had a feeling I should have bought the Halltech.
RBYCC, isn't the SLP on the plastic intake supposed to face towards the nose of the car rather than the windshield ?
YOU ARE CORRECT !!!!
Bought it on the cheap, brand new, in the box (under $250) from Zip Products who installed it on a C6 and the owner decided he didn't like it prior to even starting the car. Zip installed the white "SLP" label upside down prior to my receiving the unit !!!
I'm amazed at how many "new" items are out there for sale by people who bought them and then decided they didn't want them !!!
So far 2 week old GHL catback @ $710.00, new, never opened Z06 replica wheels @ $900.00 and the SLP @ $222.00. I guess I'm a bottom feeder ?

RBYCC, the reason I asked about the direction of the SLP air bridge is that I had the same problem others did of it not fitting on the mtg. studs correctly. I noticed yours snugged down the way it should. I'm tempted to turn mine around backwards like yours.

All along I suspected you of being a member of the "decal police", a covert wing of the more outspoken "emblem police" !!!
Seriously. disregard decal orientation. It appears the air bridge can only be installed one way. If you look at the mounting ears, the portion toward the MAF is much shorter then that going to the air filter. I first loosely installed the flex connection from the MAF to the air bridge. I then secured the air bridge to the factory mounting gromments. Make sure the grommets are in correctly because if not the air bridge will not be flat. Once the air bridge is as flat as you can get it, begin to move the flex MAF connection all the way on until it stops, then tighten. The finished product will show the MAF/Flex connection at an upward angle to the air bridge!
Let me know if you had any success....I really had no problem with the install, possible manufacturing tolerance on some units?

Mfg change
Decal ? Ah hah ! That explains a lot. The SLP letters on my air bridge are a raised, molded in part of the top, not a decal. As the mold was changed, this would explain why yours, as an earlier model (?) seats better on the mounting pins than mine, Rada 1 or, gasman29. As gasman29 stated , "The SLP airbridge is a POS IMHO." I won't be recommending it to anyone.

Mike,
Check with Jeremy (Mr. Big) he may have a quality used CAI for sale now that his SC is installed. You know the one I mean

VERY INTERESTING !!!!!
Not sure if my SLP is an earlier or later model....as I stated bought it "second hand" in early December.....came with box, instructions, warranty, and even more decals. Possible it is a later model that corrects deficiencies in earlier models????

Yup, good idea. As mine isn't leaking, I ought to give gasman29 first crack at it. He is around Waco, so if he wants it and Mr Big will sell it, they could meet 1/2 way which is about Grandview on I-35W
I talked to SLP today about my problem they gave me a couple of suggestions, add they did agree it is a tight fit and say all cars differ a little but it should fit. After another 1 hour battle with it the stock air cleaner is back on, I think the problem is in the bridge I am going to see if they will send me a replacement and maybe it will fit better. I love the filter but now hate the bridge. I hate doing things half A-- if it's not right I don't want it on the car.

Hummm, I wonder if the Halltech air bridge will mate to the SLP air filter ? That would be an interesting set up. I'm like you, I like the looks of the air filter assy., it's the bridge they can keep.
