I noticed my compass displayed vertical "CAL" along with compass direction. Tried to recalibrate using instructions in owners manual. Entered correct zone for my area, and then drove 5 mph in 3-5 tight circles. Compass would immediately start flashing vertical "CAL & ZONE" message then vertical "CAL" & "SE" messages......Just had new chrome wheels and sensors installed by dealer. Looking at going back to dealer if problem can't be solved.....any suggestions?
Note that the Compass Variance instructions in the owner's manual are known to contain an error. Where it refers to the "left map light button", it should say the "on/off button for auto dimming."
It is therefore possible that the similar instructions for Compass Calibration that mention use of the left map light button should instead refer to the on/off button for auto dimming.
I'm not sure you have to go in both directions, but mine wouldn't "hold" calibration, so I changed directions on the next calibration try...I drove in clockwise circles rather than my usual counter-clockwise. It worked; calibration has remained true since then.
Incidentally, BlkC6, there is no speed requirement. You don't have to hold 5 mph unless you just want to...going in circles is all that is required. I think the flashing "CAL" message means your calibration attempt was unsuccessful...try it again in the opposite direction following the owner's manual instructions.

Calibration attempts unsuccessful....turned off compass and after a few miles it turns back on flashing cal/zone. Took to dealer today and they ordered replacement. I had an idea there was something internally wrong, so elected to take to dealer...thx for the feedback.
