Default Head light?

What type of head light bulb is used in the C6 is it the Sylvania Silverstar or something else?

The low beams are HID.

You might check the post on foglights for some info on replacement bulbs for the C6.

I understand the lower beam unit can't be replaced by the owner. It has to be done at a dealer. Something to do with an electrical charge being held in the unit with a potential shock hazard.

High and fog lamps can be changed by the owner.

Can anyone confirm this?

the service manual gives a bunch of warnings, but says you can remove the HID system. Just be carefully to not let it touch the sides of the housing, as it will damage the arc tube.

Caution: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:

• Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the arc tube assembly starter.

• Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast output connector and the arc tube assembly.

Caution: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. In order to reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns, the battery negative cable must be disconnected any time service work is being performed on or around the high intensity discharge system.

Notice: When removing or replacing the arc tube, the arc tube must not contact the side of the headlamp housing or the bulb shield. Damage to the arc tube may result.

As stated, the low beams are HID's and to replace that, someone else would have to answer although I am not sure how you could really improve it short of a re-design. The high beam is an H9, I don't think SS's have any that fit that and I am not sure what a compatible "standard" number for that is... Hoen does make replacement blubs for it though...

The Fog is an H10, and a 9005 (although slightly higher wattage 60 vs. 42w factory) will replace that...

Does Silverstar make replacement bulbs for both the fog lights and hi-beams on the C-6 Corvette?
