Default [Honker] Cleaning filter element: how often and how?

i have a honker on my daily driver and i am wondering how often i have to clean it. does it need to be replaced or just cleaned with one of those K&M kits? is it easy to get to for this purpose? i had mine professionally installed so i am not sure how complicated it is. thanks!

Default Cleaning and reoil

Cleaning kits are out there,K&N, blackwing, have them. Just use some simple green. put it on let it sit a bit. was it out with warm to hot water. shake it out and let it dry. I reoil with K&N spray because it's a good product and it also goes on in a fine spray. The others that spray that blue oil simply spits big drops out the sprayer. To easy to over oil.
It can take as long as 24 hrs to dry completly, which I don't have, so this is what I do. After I finish rinsing it out, I lightly spray excess water off with an air hose, then put it in a dryer on the rack and dry at low to medium temp. Now The filter guys say that's a no-no, but I figure if these filter elements can handle engine compartment temp in July in Las Vegas, then they can handle dryer temps of medium. That's just simple logic. As for how often that varies as to how dirty it is. Can't help you there. I log 24,000 miles a year and clean it 2 to 3 times a year.

great reply, thanks man!

one last thing...what is the best way to access the filter element? from underneath the car, or detach the entire thing and pull it up from the top? this worries me because i dont want to break any sensors and start throwing codes or anything. how tough is it to do?

Mayonayze, Callaway Cars offers a cleaning kit for the Honker. They also have a replacment filter too

It is on their site: http://callawaycars.com/store/index....y&id=2&subid=3

You should be able to take the upper housing off with ease, by taking off the fastners that retain it - it lifts out then

Check your hoses after you reassemble and you will be fine

Have not put a CAI on my C6 yet but, on prior cars the manufacturers recommendation was 1 or 2 times a year. I went with twice and this seemed to work fine.
