Anyone With F55 Ride Problems?
Howdy guys,
It's been tossed around quite a bit that the F55 shocks are going to be expensive to replace. . . etc, etc.
So I figured I'd ask, anyone with the F55 if they had to replace a shock yet, or had problems with leaks?

That's OK. When your car isn't beating the crap out of you, you aren't in as much of a hurry to get to your destination and get out of it.

Don't feel too bad. Landru spelled "tenant" wrong.

A Spell Check would have caught the tenent, tenant but not the roomer, rumor.
Maybe we need my old 4th grade teacher to edit posts?

Since we're talking about the spelling police, have you noticed that even some dealers don't know how to spell "convertable"? Instead of convertible maybe we need to go back to rag top.

I heard F55 shocks are designed to self-destruct after 3 years or 36,000 miles.

The rear F55 shocks on my '03 went out around 10K miles. The electric connector was cracked.

Fixed under warranty?
If not the repair must have cost an arm and a leg.

Besides your problem, I think I have only read about one other on this forum.
Jim Mero, a suspension engineer at G.M. led the team that engineered both the Cadillac and Corvette magnetic ride systems. He has stated that the shock absorbers are so sturdy and simple that they should last the life of the car. Time will tell if this is true. So far it has been a non-issue on this forum (for the most part).

Yes, they were fixed under warranty. If I understand correctly, the shocks are normal wear parts that generally are not covered under warranty (like tires, brakes, etc). But because it was the electrical connector to it, and not the shock itself, it was covered by the warranty.
I've heard a few other stories of '03 (and maybe '04?) guys who had some fluid leak from their F55 shocks. Those seem to be rare cases, though.
