Default Priority Start Mounting

What side of the battery are the Priority Start guys mounting the unit? Inboard toward the engine and exhaust manifold, or on the out board side toward the fender? Has there been any reported problems due to heat if mounted on the engine side of the battery?

I mounted it on the inboard side toward the engine. So far (about 2 months) no problems with engine heat effecting the unit.

The only place I could seem to mount it so that everything reached correctly was on the inboard side........no problems with heat. However, I am concerned that the "rubberband" will be affected by the heat and eventually break.

Yeah.....that band is definitely going to "dry out" and come apart

You said it! That rubber band is the first thing I noticed and to be honest, the thing wasn't strong enough to hold the PS tight to the battery anyway with all of those heavy gauge cables attached. I zip tied mine in addition to the rubber band. Just get some big zip ties and attach two or three together (however many you need) to get around the battery.

P.S. Mine is on the inboard (engine) side of the battery. It's very difficult to place it anywhere but there. No problems yet and it has been maybe 6-9 months.

I think what I might try is some commercial grade velcro on the back of the PS and see if it will help hold it to the battery.................

Has anyone had it cut off the power yet? And when that happen's do you need to use the key to get in and how do you reset it?

I'm not sure even industrial velcro would hold it in place tight enough for my taste (too much wobble). Also, the adhesive on the back of the velcro probably wouldn't hold long in that heat.

Yes. I left the car unattended for about a month once and it eventually cut power after about 30 days. You use the key in the trunk, pop the door, and press in the cigarette lighter: instant power.

I purchased a Deltran Battery Tender for the winter months, but intend to get a Priority Start unit in the spring. Can these be hooked up together? Also, where did you get the Priority Start unit? I've seen the "Battery Drain Protector" in Griot's Garage ($70), and I assume that it is the same as the Priority Start. Is one better than the other?

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info. I mounted the unit on the inside toward the engine. The rubber band supplied with the Priority Start is sad. I emailed Priority Start directly and they are sending me an additional rubber band. I will double up on the rubber bands and hopefully it will assist in holding the unit more snugly. The unit sags way too much using the single rubber band. I also thought about using commercial grade velcro, but the adhesive would probably not survive the heat.

Yes, 10 times so far

I use the key to get the trunk open, pull the door release cable and press in the cigarette lighter for about 2 seconds to get PriorityStart to re-connect - then I'm good to go until the next time. Sure is nice to have a "keyless" entry system

I have an EZpass module mounted with commercial grade velcro in the engine compartment on the fender wall. So far, it hasn't moved so I think I'll try it with the PS unit in addition to the rubber band. Can't hurt.............

I passed through York, PA when out there from CA., enroute to Gettysburg. Was that your vette photos on CF taken at the battlefields in Gettysburg? If so, nice photos.

if anyone needs a priority start I recomend www.batterymart.com
I also would have wanted the front of the battery but I don't think the positive cable stretches that far.
