If you look at the 05 battery it sits back against the firewall and the cables come off towards the front. Was looking at an 06 today and they changed the configuration so the cables go over the top and down between a space between the battery and firewall?
GM was using BCI sized batteries and are converting everything to DIN batteries. Same rating from 05 to 06, just a different style. DIN is the global standard and BCI is the US standard. GM is trying to be global. Allthe new platforms will use DIN batteries as they can convert them. The Solctice (spelling is wrong) uses the goup 86 that was in the 05 Corvette. I don't know why that vehicle didn't get DIN since it was just introduced, but I guess that is why they lost $3.8B in the last quarter.

That doesn't explain why the cables were relocated. DIN Batteries need to look no different than the others.
I have an Optima group 35 yellow top, but I only put 8 miles (drove the new one home from the dealer on Thursday) on my car, so I haven't changed it yet. My previous C6 was towed in so many times, I didn't want to change anything, because they would then blame me for the tow ins.
If they moved it back to the back it was to change weight distribution to make the car more 50/50 balanced on weight.
The dry sump oil tank (Z06 only) sits were the battery is in a regular C6, so they put the battery in the back. Same battery, just allot more copper wire.
anyone ever thought while trying to save all of this weight....moving the battery to the back added over 5lbs from all of the damn wiring to get it back there????

True, hence why I chose simply to use a smaller/lightweight battery in the stock location in my Z28 as opposed to moving a full size one to the back for racing like others often do.
But in the case of C6 Z06 I don't think the objective was quite overall weight savings as much as necessity to make room for the dry sump oil system...helping move some the weight rearward thus helping weight distribution a bit was an added benefit.

This was done to prevent DBS.
No C6 Corvette with it's battery cables mounted in this configuration has ever suffered an episode of DBS.
