Default C6 B&M Shifter - Installation Problem !

I started to install the B&M shifter on my new C6 Z51 last night, ( though the stock shifter is pretty sweet almost like the B&M I put in my C5), and after removing all the screws which was easy enough, at step 18 the instructions say "...lift out the front center console. Be sure to remove connector wires..." Well sure enought there are 3 "connector wires", the Emerg Flasher, the Traction Control button and the aux power for accessories.

Problem is, after of fiddling for an hour, I could NOT get ANY of those damn things to disconnect. I know that you have to squeeze or pinch those connectors in a certain way, but you can't really see the connectos as they are hidden under the console itself !!!!

Anyone have any success getting these connectors off or have suggestions ??? BTW the instructions said remove the passenger airbag module...I don't have a module in the place the instructions suggest...anyone know what's up with that?

I called B&M and gave 'em an earful since I believe that better pics and 'How To' should have detailed the proper removal technique.
I spoke to the head Tech guy, Chris, he said he's going to investigate it and call me back.

I did a forum search (a while back so you might have to pick archives) for console removial. It was much more informative that the B&M instructions...

I believe it was discussing installing a hurst shfter (I used the B&M as well)...

Did mine a few weeks ago the connectors were a pain. I assume you removed the center console lid and the side trim? If you pull out the front console you should be able to easily get to the flasher one. after that you should be able to pull back a little more (put shifter in 3rd) and you can rotate the cig lighter in the ashtray to see the connector and release it. If you have heated seats i can't help since I don't have them. At this point I rotated the console flipping it back so the vents were facing the back of the car and I could easily get to the the traction and front lighter connectors. You could also use a mirror and see how the connector attaches. Check to see if the stock **** drops into position before you install. many of the shifter need some grinding and the **** should not be screwed on.

PipeDreams...Thanks for the great first hand info. HOW did you release the emerg flasher connector?. Squeezing something or just pulling hard straight toward the nose of the car?

I just did the hurst install. I agree it was tough. On the top of each connector if you feel with your thumbnail there is a little ridge that you press in and pull the connector at the same time. You kinda have to get a thumbnail on it to press on it hard enough.

same goes with all connectors including the cig lighter. I used a small flat tip on the cig lighter though to press the retaining thingamabob in whilst pulling back on the connector.

I removed the complete flasher switch by releasing the tab on each side. You can remove the vent to get better access

Cool... I'm going out to the garage right now to try that...

The B&M National Sales Mgr called me back (just got his voice mail) saying he can fax me instructions and pictures for removing the switch connectors !!!!.
I'll post 'em on the Forum, when I get them, probably by tomorrow evening.
