well I did this myself, but my car came back from the dealership with a low-low battery and I didn't know it. It was in for body repair on the nose. When I got it back the people who detailed it, they removing scratches from dealer cleanup of dust in November, probably didn't know it had to be in reverse.
I get home, it set's overnight, then the next night (tuesday) I go out and put in the cd's. While the audio portion is updating (blank screen) the car drops into battery save mode (read on DIC). The unit kept my disc and after recharging the battery it won't turn on or anything. I took it to the dealership and will await their response.
Status: dead radio from failed update due to low battery.
I guess that's why GM put the warning in the Doc's for the update that says ensure the car's battery is fully charged. Ouch, that sucks, sorry to hear it.
My dealer is going to do the same update next week.....gulp. I hope he follows the service bulletin guide. Actually, I printed a copy of the instructions on how to do it which I got right here on the forum. Thanks again forum.

yup the only way to know is to put a charger on it and see what it reads. I was beside myself thinking it was the battery gone dead. I just got it back - but after about 5minutes of charge - voila. It fired up and the radio was RIP.
