Default Recommendations for a C6 Computer Tuner

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and new to the Corvette world. I recently purchased an 06 Coupe, and would like to perform some minor modifications to it. For starters I have already replaced the stock air filter with a K&N induction kit. I am also planning on changing the exhaust soon (maybe Corsa Sport). But the real point of this post is, I am interstested in purchasing one of those handheld computers that will flash and tune your computer to improve the performance. Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of unit to buy? Maybe $600 or less for something decent would interest me.

Thanks for your help and I have to say this forum rocks. Some of you out there really know your stuff, and I have been learning a lot as I read.

*I* think you would have better results by bringing the car to reputable tuner and then have them tune the car. But, it would depend on your location as well.

I wouldn't even begin to attempt to do the programming myself. There are the exceptions to this, like the guys who mix track and street, road race, and have considerable tune/program knowledge. The C6 is not a cheap car to fix if you screw up the timming or something that causes a failure. Leave it to the professionals. Pay a good tuner. Once the EMC is set according to your application, no change is needed. Unless, as I stated, you are switching from track to street and back or changing mods frequently.

I think where some can benefit with the handheld is if you change the ECM from the original settings (eliminate torque management for instance) and then want to take the car in to the dealer for warranty work/repair you can reload the original factory program that you have saved, and vice versa. Even that can comes with risks involved.

Best bet Tony is to get your car done by a professional. Dyno tune is the best because it is the close to the condition that you will drive it on the steet. The handheld ones like predator adn other have been haveing some user friendly issues to date. I would say a good tune should cost you about 400 dollars with those modifications. Also most shops will give you free updates to the tune as you add modifications for teh life of the car. That is what Carolina Auto Masters provides and I know others do also. Hope that helps.
