Default Next Mod @ $1500?

i posted this in general and got next to nothing. so i will post it here again, slightly changed as i had more time to sleep on it. here are the option i am considering:

1) mild cam
2) Fast Intake
3) UD Pulley
4) Brakes and Suspension

i have between $1500 and $2000 for this mod. can i get a cam done for this much? or would the Fast intake be more reasonable for the price? i just want somewhere between 400-420rwhp. i already have bullets, honker, and LGs. let me know.

should be able to do a cam and UD pulley for $1500...do both same time and save on labor for pulley....plus tune.

I believe headers and intake (FAST) set up would be close to 400hp for that amount of money. A cam would cost $2000 or more with installation. Callaway has a combination with the headers and FAST intake for $2800, so that should give you an ideal.

If you can do all the labor yourself you maybe be able to do it. If you pay someone for labor then you will not be able to do it.

Headers and fast intake would be the best bang for the buck but they are more then $1500-2000. Headers with cats are anywhere from $1000 - 1500 and Fast intake is around $850. Installation on both of these ain't cheap either.

The kit is not included unless it is a package deal.

ok, so then which is the most cost efficient way to go? pay for the quick install kit, or incur the cost of the extra labor associated with modding the firewall?

also, what are the gains you all are seeing from this mod?

thanks again for the great replies!

Get the kit, do it right...
12-18 HP

I'd do a cam is I were you, but I'm not you.
You would have to install it yourself to keep within your budget, but then again, its not that difficult to do....

Keep in mind the cam will require new springs. Of the choices you listed get the cam and UD pulley. LG did this with the stock heads and was at 440rwhp with the headers you now have. I would plan a road trip to ECS to have the install done and they can tune that cam well. That will make or break the way it runs.

i really really would love to go that route...but it sounds like that package is going to run north of $3k after its all bought and installed. just about double the budget i had allotted for this last mod. (last mod, yeah right )

if i can get it done for just under $2k, i would go for it, but that doesnt sound like a very realistic expectation with the install and tuning time required, after the $1k purchase price for all parts necessary (cam, springs, retainers, ect..) am i way off base in my estimates here?

I'd wait a month or two. Then do the cam and springs. You'd probably regret not doing the cam in the long run.

The gains you would get from the FAST intake would be minimal compared to the expense. Fast has higher gains on supercharged engine. Cam would probably be the way to go.

There is no doubt at all. Do the cam, springs, pushrods ($800), UD pulley ($250)and enjoy your 30-40 HP. You can find a forum vendor that will do the swap for $1500. Good luck

I would do cam, but thats me. Plus I do all my work so I'd save a couple of bills and use it towards other goodies.

if you do a cam and change your springs now...in 2 months i bet you will be changing your heads. so there goes the springs and labor there. I understand wanting to mod the car but maybe you should wait until you can do a head and cam swap at the same time. the labor will not increase by any when doing both at the same time. Just a thought, I do understand that you want to do something now but increasing by 10-15 hp at a time will get expensive

I went up by 160+rwp when i modded and i am looking for more now so what i say may only be worth a grain of salt

Default Get supension and brakes

What do you use the car for? Street? Track events? Canyon twisties?

If you have headers, intake, and a tune you will already smoke the majority of the cars you will come up against on the street. Do you think an aditional 30,40 or even 50 HP is going to make much of a differance?

The suspension and brakes in the C6 could use some improvements if you don't want a eclipse, 300z, or some other rice mobile riding on your rear around the twisties. Especially if you have base. The Z51 package improves the cornering some. But with a better quality shock, sway bar, brake package, etc you will leave em in the dust down the straights, into and out of the corners.

Bro, I will go against the others and say "get the suspension and brake mods"!!!

Save your money. You'll only get a fraction back what you put in it at resale. Trust me - been; there done that. Just my $.01 (economy adjusted).
