Default Comparison between G Force vs. Goodyear SC's

I haven't taken delivery of my new Z51 yet, but I'm considering buying an extra set of wheels for track events. I would like to know, for those of you, who have experience with both the G Force T/A DKW2's and the Goodyear SC runflats, what's your verdict?

2 members here, Flareside and C6 400hp were quite vocal about NOT going to the base tires with the Z51.

I had a bad experience with the g-force tires on a track car...they came apart. Thankfully I didn't lose complete control of the car. Tires were properly inflated. When I took the remains to the tire store, they replaced them right away. The tire store manager stated that was not the first time a track event had ripped apart one of his customers g-force tires. This was about five years ago, so I know there have been advancements in design but I'm done buying BFG products.

That's not what I'm asking

I'm looking for individuals that have experience with both EMT Supercar tires and G Force T/A KDW2's

KDW2's should not be used for track events. Buy a better set. You will rip the outer edges of the blocks off.

Buy the KD's if they make them in C6 sizes, or bump back to 18" C5 rims at all 4 corners.

They do make the KD's in C6 sizes and since I'll be driving a Z51, I'd have to change brakes to go down to the C5 wheel sizes.

I'm not left with any choices other than running EMT SC's, if the KD's are not a good choice, or is there?

Not quite the same tire, but I had the BFG KD (not the KDW) runflats on my C5, two sets.

They had impressive "sticktion" compared to the stock runflats.

That's the end of the good news. They were the noiseiest and roughest riding street tires I've ever experienced, breakaway seemed very sudden if you pushed too hard, they were corner-specific (directional and asymetrical), and both sets developed such serious cupping (despite careful alignment and balancing) that I replaced them with 50% tread still remaining.

Finally got Firestone SZ50 runflats for the C5, lost a little grip in the corners but much more predictable and comfortable.

Which is why I said run 18" C5 rims at all 4 corners.

Like with most things in life your mileage may vary.

I have KDW2s and saw very acceptable tire wear patterns after one track day. The track had a right turn bias so the left front tire had a little more wear on the outside edge than the right front. I used to hold a class lap record on this track and was pushing the car pretty hard. The KDW2 doesn't really have outside tread blocks in the traditional sense.

I have no idea how the grip compares to the F1 SC on the track but I found the KDWs to be pretty predictable and easy to drive. The ride quality is a big improvement over EMTs.

Default Just switched

After 10,000 miles, I replaced my Goodyears with Goodrich KDW2. On the street, the traction is so much better. The Goodyears seemed to become hard and somewhat slick. It was too easy to get the tailend to slide even during low speed, low rpm, with the Goodrich, I gotta work at it. For the street, I highly recommend the Goodrich.

I will be doing my first AutoX next week, with tires inflated to 40. I'll let you know how they do.

I don't personally do autox, but I'll be very interested to see how the G-Force tires perform.

I've had the KDWs, not the /2s, there may be some differences besides the funky tread pattern. Overall, the performance of the tires is comparable, I think the GYs might produce slightly higher numbers on the skid pad but the BFGs are easier to drive fast, as they're more informative near break-off.

I got excellent wear from them (about 50% more than the GYs), considering the performance level, but they are known to be very sensitive to alignment and will wear very quickly if it's a little out.

Definitely quieter than the GYs, at least for most of the tire's life. They get a bit noisy in the last 1/3 or so.

Other tires that fit the C6 include the Michelan PS2s (highly recommended by many people), the Toyo T1Rs and the Falkan FK-451s. There are a number of threads in C6 General, each of these tires has enthusiasts.
