Default MS Excel Gear Ratio Spreadsheet

I am posting the spreadsheet I use to calculate speeds in gears. You will need the Microsoft Excel program to use this chart.

You can change tire size, rear end ratio, individual gear ratio, and rpm limits. There are individual sheets for each transmission on the new C6. It's still a work in progress so feedback is appreciated and time allowing updates will get made.

You can also find Java based calulators online to perform the same calulations -- but they're not as pretty.

The spreadsheet is here.

Could you post for the MN6 (with and w/o Z51 gearing option) ... to compare with A6 ?

I did a similar spreadsheet and I got the same numbers that you did for the A6. However, I forgot about the converter slippage for the automatic. I don't know a good number, but when you are at full throttle, the converter won't lock up. So you'll probably need to multiply the top speed in each gear by .90 (I found 10% slippage at one of the websites, but I don't know if this is a good number or not?)

Thanks,
Glenn

I would be nice to have a "log" from someone with an auto, and then you could easily slow slippage in each gear. It likely varies by load and rpm in each gear, but should be relatively constant.

I wasn't aware that the TC wouldn't lockup up at WOT. I know it has a lockup mechanism. Any idea what dictates whether it locks or not?

Interesting. It looks like the Z51 might require an extra 3-4 shift in the quarter mile whereas the standard MN6 and A6 would not.

I think the torque converter only locks up during cruise, for economy.
