Default MAF Screen

Just a quick question just recently installed the LPE intake and I was curious. Is it ok to remove the stock MAF screen, I figure it'd only cause restricted air flow. Or is it best to leave it on, might be there for a reason?

Is it beneficial to leave it in harmful to take it out or does it simply not effect anything in the slightest bit?

black05, did you mention something feeling better. I'm just really curious whether this would do anything because now I just went to check out breathlessperformances Vortex induction and in their instructions they actually have a part mentioning the removal of the MAF screen O.o! http://www.breathlessperformance.com...texInstall.asp

Those gains they claim from the Vortex seem awfully high though.. jeez.

I know from when i took my screen out of my stock M.A.F.. This could be coincidence, but my car started acting up. Also i have taken the screen out of all my cars that i owed before and nothing ever went wrong so.

IMO, the trickiest part about removing the screen is putting everything back together again. I would also suspect that has been the issue with the 'intake' issues others have had (no offense meant). the bottom of the intake 'bellows' is the easiest area to inadvetently create an air leak. imo, one needs to use a 'screw on' type of method when reinstalling the bellows to make sure it is seated properly. I have been running without a screen and my own created air intake for about a year and haven't had any engine related issues. I can't confirm any power gains, just my own seat-of-the-pants analysis. my car does seem a bit more responsive but then again i haven't driven anyone elses so i can't really say if it does or not. taking your screen out or leaving it is is gonna fall down to personal preference. i'm not aware of any provable gains that have been shown that would make it a 'must-do'.

I took mine out when I installed the Vortex Rammer. No ill effects but I can't say it made a difference. Whether or not you need the air straightened out depends a bit on the intake and the Vortex is pretty straight flowing so probably doesn't need the screen as much as other intakes. In any case, if I had it to do over, I'd probably leave it alone just because I doubt it makes much difference.
