Default Mystery Solved!

I had catastrpohic engine failure a while back if any ofyou guys were keeping track. I had to go to Spain with work and I was only able to find a broken lifter and some P to V interference... never able to determine what went wrong first. Well I got the motor out and I think I have it all figured out. See if my logic sounds right.

All three bolts and the dowel in the camshaft were sheared off. So, that tells me the roller broke of the lifter for some reason, defect, too much spring pressure, bad cam lobe. Oiling is not an issue I see no signs of heat or oil starvation. So, the roller brakes off and bounces around on top of the cam. It gets jammed in between the lobe and stops the cam shearing off the cam gear. Power cuts off but it has some inertia so it whacks pistons 1 and 8 really bad a few of the others get nicks, two of them are clean.

Block looks fine but I have a stroker that will be here on Tues. I'll have it checked and build it up as something else or sell it to someone building a project. I cracked my timing cover, bent teeth on the cam gear and took a bit of plastic off the cam sensor.

Can I reuse it? Its just a deep scratch in the plastic. Maybe they are cheap.

The plastic damper is destroyed. I will go ahead and clean the pump out and port it. Man, what a mess.

Sounds like a possible senerio...albeit messy!

Are you going to try and rebuild it or sell as is?

Not sure about the old motor. I think I'd like to sell it as a project for somebody else... If not, I'll probably build it myself and keep it as a spare for me or somebody else. If you have to go into the bottom end, I can't see any reason not to go forged/stroker.

I took a look at the stock rods... they don't look that bad. They are way better than stock Mustang rods, but looks can be deceiving. I know the pistons are the weak link but I expected a pretty crappy looking rod as well.

I had stock rockers and hardened push rods.
