OK I have decided to go with a bottom breather for my C6, either Honker or Lingenfelter. I know that the possiblity of hydralock have been discussed here. It would make me feel better if anyone here or know of someone else that actually had hydralock from a bottom breather. Thanks

Would it really make you feel better or maybe make you rethink the bottom breather? I am also trying to decide between the Vararam and the Callaway, but I think with a little caution hydralock shouldn't be an issue.

There are perhaps a dozen or so people who have had it with C5s. Do a search over there.

From what I recall, the Vortex, the Vararam, and the Halltech Trap are represented. I recall Jimman, and Redgar as two people who have hydrolocked engines with bottom breathers on C5s by going through standing water.

Do a search.

Mine is on the way. Had the Vararam on my C5. But I agree, standing water is the enemy. Especially with these cut shroud systems. They are probably worse that the Vararam in that the front air dam more or less will direct water right to the shroud area.

At least the Vararam sat at the nose, or the very front of the car. Still a risk, but there have been more cases of hydrolock with the cut shroud systems than with any other aftermarket systems.

Since I don't drive in wet weather anyway I should be OK but make no mistake, you do give up some wet weather drivability with these CAI systems.

you will find some nascar driver wanna be claiming that he was driving in only 2 inches of water and he was only using a standard bottom feeder that they sell now a days and he got hydro lock from that set up. this issue of hydro lock from these bottom feeder for the c6 are definitely driver related.

Be nice now...

There have been 1 or 2 reported cases in C6's. Let your conscience and wallet be your guide.

This issue has been debated almost as hotly as the CarTek TM Module.

'nuff said...

No plans for water driving for me with my C6 with LPE intake, but I had the Vararam on my C5 and got caught in a few rain showers and never had any trouble. Good luck with your decision

Here's my post with the LPE intake pics - can't speak for the Honker but I can tell you the Lingenfelter CAI makes some SERIOUS power that you can feel!
