Does anyone know the GM service bulletin number for the replacing 2006 Z51 brakes with ceramic pads to fix squeal?

Thanks

I thought the 06 already had the improved pads? How many miles on your car? Maybe they need some time to breakin?

Brake Squeal on Vehicles Equipped with Z51 Package - keywords disc front groan noise pad rear squeak #PIC3320A - (Jul 8, 2005)
Brake Squeal On Vehicles Equipped With Z51 Package
2005 Chevrolet Corvette With (RPO Z51)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment that when they apply the brakes, the vehicle exhibits a squeal noise. This squeal noise is heard coming from the front or rear of the vehicle. Vehicles produced with the Z51 sport package are equipped with larger rotors and harder pads.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Replace both the front and rear brake pads with the part numbers listed below. Both front and rear pads need to be replaced due to the difference in composition of the brake lining material. The existing rotors should be used and it is not necessary to machine the rotors.

What should I do if my vehicle is a 2006? Should I already have the newer Ceramic pads?

Thanks

As far as I know, GM is not putting in ceramic pads as a fix. They are merely installing softer pads. The 2006 uses the same OEM pads as the 2005, so the same fix applies.

Several members have commented that doing a couple of hard decelerations (but not hard enough to activate ABS) from 80 mph down to 20 and then driving around for a while to let the brakes cool, will solve the problem for a few thousand miles.

Mine was made Jan. 31st.
The brakes have a little whistle, doesn't bother me.

Exactly. The dealer changed my pads and the squeak went away.

I thought the fix for the 2005 Z51 brake pads was to replace them with the 2006 Z51 pads which make less noise.

Some folks say that the "squeal-less" pads for Z51 are simply the standard pads from a non-Z51 car. Other folks claim that there is a distinct squeal-less pad for Z51 that is different from the standard non-Z51 pad.
I asked the parts idiot at the local dealership but this was WAY over his head. Can someone inform me? Thanks.

I got the dealership to change my pads, and noticed that the car had much less bite than before. Still stops strong, but needed a considerably increase in braking force. I again changed my pads to Prostop Ceramics, from Pepboys, made by Raysbestos, and they already include quite shims on the pads, brake bite is better than before, no noise yet, and a noticable improvement in less powder on the rims.

I called my dealer and I don't have the z51 and my brakes started to squel left front about 4k miles. The dealer said metallic pads and no free fix or replacement bulletin from GM

Default brake pads

if you don,t mind spending the money try porterfield r4s pads, about 240.00 front and back. got mine from livermore products. if installed properly no squeal, no dust after initial bedding (breakin), and better stopping than stock.
