I had the flowmaster system installed on my A4 last week. It sounds great but... there is a slight drone at light throttle at around 15-1700. I don't mind but my wife rides in and or drives the car too and she is complaining a just little. She was in favor of putting the system on to begin with. She is a car person.. but .... would like to get rid of some of the drone. We put some jute in the storage boxes and under the Loyd's mat. That helped some but we would like to improve on that. There are a lot of sond deadeners out there... Which one have you used?
Dynamat that is used in car systems. Expensive but should work. Or the best option is to probably just take it off.
Actually the car is too quiet stock. We both want the Corvette sound.. If I can get rid of the drone we will both be happy. My 69 was louder but it didn't have resonation that this system does. Corvette Enthusiast Mag. did a review on the flowmaster system and said there was no drone. There is none at idle or cruise but in stop and go traffic it is pretty noticable.
Sure, it might take the volume of drone such that you wouldn't hear it, BUT in doing that you would also take away the volume of the "good" sound of the exhaust.
Get a different exhaust to get rid of "drone". Anything else is just a band-aid.
Follow up... I just put the dynamat down under the Loyds mat and lined the two compartments with it . It is much better. Thanks.
What Dynamat product did you get. They have so many different ones. And did you just put it under the Lloyds mat or did you pull up the factory carpet and put it underneath. I ordered the Dynamat Dynapad and have not received it yet so I really don't know what to expect. The Dynapad is 3/8 inch thick and says its for exhaust heat and low frequency exhaust noise.
I couldn't find any pad locally so I got the Dynamat extreme from best buys car audio department. I is not very thick.. I used the adhesive to hold it to the sides of the storage boxes. I just layed the rest down on the fatory carpet for now, and then put a layer of 1/4" jute on top and then the loyds mat. This week end I may put it under the factory carpet. The wife is happy and that's what matters.
you better get that off the car[et. one hot dat and it will get black on the carpet and you will not be getting it off. also until you adhere the dynamate to the surface you could have put a blanket back thwre. the whole i dea of dynamate is to lower the vibration frequency of the panel it is attached to. read attached to not laying on top of. it may lower it a little like this but when it is installed right it will m=be much better
