Default Removing the catback...

Hey guys, have any of you removed the catback or the mufllers (just for a day or 2) to see what the car would sound like? Kind of like the bullets? Is this allright to do on the vette? I did it on my last car and liked the tone so much I had the mufflers hacked off and a custom pipe built in...if this is okay to do what all is required to remove the mufflers? Do I need to remove sway bars or is it just a simple un bolt and take mufflers off the hangers? I want to put the cat back back on the car once im done "testing", will the tips go back in nicely and all? Thanks for the help! If I like how it souns maybe I will just invest in some cutouts or bullets!!!

What you are calling a catback is really an exhaust pipe/muffler combination. A catback would extend to the cats and include the "H" pipe.

Your mufflers are welded to the overaxle pipes, they have to come out as a unit. The sway bar doesn't have to be removed, just pivoted down out of the way. If you remove the overaxle pipe/mufflers your exhaust will be dumping under the car behind the seats, if you remove the "H" pipe the exhaust will dump right under the shifter lever.

Will removing the mid pipe (h-pipe to mufflers) give me a cell? I think just removing that pipe may be easier than taking off the mufflers and pipe over the axel...

you can do it and there will be no problems as long as you have the custom pipe made and installed, not sure if I would let the exhaust dump right out under the car, may not hurt just to test things out but i would not do it for long drives .

It might give you a CEL since the rear o2 sensors will run cooler but think of the noise with 2 straight pipes dumping right under your knees. Plus you'll have to make some kind of bracket to support the front of the overaxle pipes.
