Anyone know how remove the back-up light on the drivers side? I looked it over, and it appears that you may have to remove the rear clip to get at the screws. GM wouldn't do that to us would they?
No, you can reach up and get to it. You must lie on the ground, but you can slide your arm up in there, rotate it 90 deg, and pull it out. Pop an new bulb in and reverse the process.
you ca change the bulb but not pull the light. have had it all apart alredy and it is the only way as the bolts are in the area where the bottom of the diffuser meaets the actual rear clip....have fun hope u are just after the bulb!!!
Thanks Guys. Nope I'm after the light, not the bulb. I did something stupid and backed against a post about a foot out of the ground and in my blind spot. Broke the two bottom tabs off the light so it can be pushed in from the bottom. Not real bad, but thought I'd replace it and get it back to normal.
Hal, how do you remove the lower facia? Where can I get a manual on the car? It would be nice to get one on CD or something. I checked at the dealer and they showed me a blow up of the light assembly, but it didn't show how to get to it. I asked to see the maintenance manual but he was reluctant to show it to me. He did offer to do the work though....
TeaMan; I don't have a scanner so I can't copy the pages of the manual. The copy reads;(I'm going to quote this directly since the wording is a little strange) Liner,Front Wheelhouse Rear (I assume they mean to remove the inner fender liner), Retainer,Rear Bumper Facia, qty 2 (2 bolts? in the center of the facia), Bolts,Rear Facia Lower, qty 6 (appears to be three bolts on each side of the panel into the rear bumper cover).
Without the exploded views it probably doesn't make much sense.
I got my Service Manuals from http://www.helminc.com or call 1-800-782-4356. $141.95 delivered .
It's easier to get the fascia off if you remove the wheel well liners first, but it's not absolutely necessary. There's the 3 or 4 bolts (on each side) connecting the fascia to the wheel well liner. Then there's 3 (each side) that connect it to the fender. These are the ones that are tricky to get if the wheel well liners are on. Then there's 2 bolts/brackets that attach the center (by the exhaust tips). The rest is held on by the tabs placed along the edge that meets the painted rear bumper. Bend the tabs a bit and they'll slide out. And remember to unplug the connectors that attach to those light bulbs before trying to pull everything off.
