Default surging in 2nd and 3rd

I have about 7800 miles on so far. I've notice that for the past 100 miles or so it seems like it surges (or misses a little) while winding up in second and 3rd gear. Idle seems normal and I don't have any engine lights on.

I do have a Borla exhaust and the SLP Blackwing intake (recently installed) but this has been happening before the intake install.

I want to say that it almost feels like it hesitates (a little) then surges almost like it misfires or something.

Any thoughts on what this could be? Wouldn't a check engine light come on if there was an issue with timing or something? Could it possibly be a bad plug or wire or something? Any ideas of what I can do to be sure?

Thanks in advance

Make sure your connection to the intake are secure. I would say if that does not solve it take it into the shop and have them give it a look.

Seems like surging is usually a leak in the aftermarket intake. I agree loosen all the connections and re tighten.

Sometimes with an aftermarket intake it is best also to gradually tighten the connections in a pattern. Don't torque each one hard as you go.

This was the secret on the vararam install on the C5. Leave everything sort of loose until you have the fit right then torque down the connections. Not my idea by the way, I am far from a mechanic.

My cousin helped me install a couple of vararams on the C5 and taught me this. My vararams fit very nice and did not surge.

Although I don't think there really is much to a blackwing install. You only have a couple of connectins there. Good luck, if not the seal may be a tuning issue if you are running a stock tune with your mods.

I'll try the re seating of the intake - I might try and put a little seal on the connections too.

I was thinking maybe it was relearning things but I would think 200 miles of driving would be more than enough time.

Has the surging stopped?

It hasn't - although I took it into the dealership and had the tech take a look at it. He said it felt fine to him - although I can still feel it.

I haven't had a chance to swap out the intake back to stock to see if that might be the issue. I have a feeling that the SLP is causing too much of an angle in that ribbed sleeve - or maybe there's an air leak somewhere. I've retightened everything down though.

We shall see -

I too experienced some surging with the SLP Blackwing followed by a CEL. The car reported an error code of P0171 - lean condition in bank 2.

So this past Sat I removed the SLP BW and all is well. In fact I felt no real difference in before/after street tests. Of course my SOTP meter isn't calibrated very well. If there is a gain, it's so slight as to be insignificant in the big scheme of things. I mean who can feel 5 HP amongst 400?

I'm returning it to Mid America and keeping the OEM air filter assembly. I was told by a few folks that the C6 air box is actually very good for a N/A motor and very little to be gained by "modding", unlike the C5 which responded nicely to an intake change.

Good luck with your situation.

Yeah - I think my next step is to go back to stock. I would agree - I'm pretty disappointed in the SLP in terms of feeling a SOTP difference. Even sound wise I can't hear the deep throaty (wait did I just use deep and throut in a sentence? ) sound like I could in my C5 from upgrading.

This old C5 guy is still learning all the subtle differences between the C5 and C6. Mods that were effective on the C5 may not be so effective or welcome on the C6. I bought a code reader and after this incident it turned out to be the best $70 I've spent. I can read and clear codes w/o having to de-mod then go to the dealer.

If Mid America gives me a hassle guess I'll put the BW in the For Sale Section and take a beating.
