We hear much discussion about wheel hop. I own a '95 C4 and am ordering a C6 on Friday. Isn't wheel hop a natural consequence of having transverse mounted leaf springs? Is that ever avoidable with this design? And aren't there other benefits of transverse mounted leaf springs that warrent wheel hop?
Do you guys feel like a coil spring design is better? The leaf springs allow for a lower (less vertical dimension) design.

No, use of a transverse spring has nothing to do with it. If they'd used a pair of longitudinal springs like a lot of solid axle rear wheel drive cars use, you could have spring windup issues, but the transverse design avoids that. It is no different than using torsion bars (including the wrapped up torsion bars called coil springs). The wheels are located by the carriers and the A-arms. The spring just supplies the support to keep the car from falling down against the travel stops via the ride height adjusters. There is no hard connection between the spring and the suspension, so windup can't be an issue.
Then why all the discussion about wheel hop for Corvettes? Do other cars have this response? I hear 911 owners saying their cars don't respond this way. What allows for wheel hop; the incredibly flat handling attributed to the wide stance, laterally stiff suspension?
I understand that a coil spring is actually a torsion spring.
Many other cars have bad wheel hop. Front wheel drive is really bad with the coil springs and soft engine and tranny mounts. Ask any SRT4 driver about wheel hop.
Don't dump the clutch and don't have TC on.....this is the only time have experienced it.....let your butt tell you how quickly to let up.
I am running 500rwhp I am getting wheel hop shirfting into second when I AM on it. I just rasied it back up a little I want to see if that will help it or not.
