That's what I told, too. I don't have any place to try that level of triple digit driving, so I have no bragging rights.

You lose about 20 hp more due to the automatic, plus you loose about another 20 hp because the engine can only get up to 5,000 rpm in 5th gear. Taken together, that's 40 hp additional loss, or 10%. Since drag increases as the square of the speed, a 10% power reduction should produce a slightly more than 3% speed reduction. 3% of 186 = 6 mph.

Other folks are requested to calculate and post here...
I don't see why you state we loose HP for having an automatic. With a lock up torque converter, there is no torque converter losses, and the internal clutches are locked up, so where would the losses for the automatic be? In drag racing, we are now using automatics with lock up torque converters. The key is the locking torque converter.

173 on an German Autobahn with a little room left on my '05 Z51 MN6. It was very stable and I was able to change lanes without feeling light. My buddies '04 Z06 had the front fenders swell out due to the air pressure from the brake cooling ducts (I think) and his felt a little light on the front-end. I believe that it will get to 186 without a problem. Bill

I guess the HPtuners tab is wrong stating the speed limiter is set to 186. Maybe the ones that did better had a tune and moved it up.

promod69camaro-
That's an interesting point, I can't give a positive answer but the few dyno runs I have seen show the A6 making less HP at the wheels than the MN6. Since they run under WOT, usually all the way to redline, the extra HP is going somewhere. Whether the TC is locked or not isn't the complete issue, what counts is HP delivered to the rear wheels.

I find this hard to believe. I've had my Z51 MN6 Vert to 155 in 5th and was tacking 5500.

I've taken a cel phone call at 100 mph. No problem. Car feels glued to ground and tight at that speed

Even when the convertor is locked there are still losses to mechanical friction inside the tranny. Automatic transmissions are known for having more internal losses than manual transmissions. If you want proof, look no further than your local dyno. The automatic will dyno lower.

Unless your car has had the rear gears changed to 4.00 or you're running a 23" tall tire 155 MPH is around 4700 RPM. Perhaps you were on the cell phone again?
