Default 05 C6 Differential upgrade

Will an 06 diff bolt right in to an 05 without any modifications? If this is a dumb question please be patient as I am a first time Vette owner. I had previously asked some other questions but they are being addressed on another thread.

Do a search there is alot of info already talked about here.
1) The 06 is upgraded and no it will NOT bolt in to most(see item 3 below) 05's.
2) The 05 has a different bolt pattern on the rear diff where it bolts to the tranny.
3) I have heard some 05's got the updated diff but cant really get a firm sure answer about this or when, what production date it happened.
4) The C5 97-04 diffs will NOT fit in the 05 or 06 cars without alot of custom bracket work? Again not real clear but the cases are different even though the bolt pattern may be the same.

Anymore info greatly appreciated.
Matt

1) True.

2) False. The bolt pattern to the tranny is the same. The bolt pattern to the chassis is different. Also, the 2005 diff uses a 27 spline pinion. The 2006 diff uses a 31 spline pinion. So it won't mate with a 2005 tranny output shaft.

3) Maybe.

4) True.

Default 2005 Rear Diff

Thanks guys I really appreciate that information. If you don't mind, I have a few more question;
In reading the thread about the Z06 rear diff problems, that appears to be a different issue than what was happening with the 2005 C6 differentials. I understand that the larger number of splines make for a stronger axle, but is this something really needed if 400 to 450 hp range?
Would the Dyno Tech girdle assembly be a good option here considering the problem on the C6 appears to be housing related?
The Z06 thread is bringing up some great points and ideas, but are those applicable for the C6?

The early 05 rear diff is the same bolt pattern. The side mounts of the 05 C6 rear are not used with a C5 diff. but the center mount for the C5's rear needs only to be drilled into the cradle. It has been suggested to have a flat plate billet aluminum to connect the old side mounting locations to each other (Dave Farmer).

Chevy apparently thinks so, but the diameter and material are more important than the number of splines.

Wouldn't hurt, would probably help.

There is a thread on this forum that shows an early 05 diff bolt pattern and an 06 bolt pattern and they are different! The 05 has the same bolt pattern as a C5 where it bolts to the tranny(though the case is different) and the 06 has its own bolt pattern. I'll try and find it and link it here.

Found it, look at post #30 in this thread!

Default 05 Diff

Guys, Thank you again for the responses, WOW!!!! I read every single post on the links and sincerly hope I did not stir up anything...I swear I did not know all of that took place. Spin for what ever it is worth, I was just as confused reading through the thread but think I understand now. I wonder if there is some way to idenify VIN numbers with the type of diff that was installed in the car? That would simplify many things and make it easier to search for issues with what ever rear end type you may have. The more I think about this the more I wonder if it is safer to just leave the traction control alone to provide some protection against a blown rear. I think I will purchase the girdle though, as stated it can't hurt.
Thank you again for the information.
