I wanted to try installing a camera for backup in the C6 NAV system.
Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? Is there any way to plug it into the system?
Yes you can hook up a camera, a friend at work just did this to his car. Go to nav-tv.com or pac-audio.com for needed supplies. Or for those who do not have the nav. system go to etrailer.com. Hope this helps, Good luck.
The resolution on the stock nav screen will be horrible if you can find a way to do it....picture quality will probably look like a poor web camera shot.
I have a friend that has a camera on his 2005 Yukon and the display on his Nav. unit is excellent with a very wide angle view. The installer said that the cost was about $750.00
.. ?! Yes it would be nice to havea camera on the back of a the C6 but no I don't see it as necessary what-so-ever... The car basically ends where the rear window does..!
Any kind of backing up would benefit from the camera. I parallel park my 'vette about once per year but end up backing out of parking spaces, etc much more frequently. I've never hit anything while backing the car but several friends have done so- usually it's something too low to be seen out the window but high enough to damage the car. A four year old kid could be standing behind the car and remain unseen. Walking behind the car before backing up helps a lot, but stuff still happens.
I'm not going to sell the C6 if no one makes a camera, but I'll probably buy the camera if it becomes available.

For point of reference, there are folks that have done the conversion to watch DVDs on their NAV. I would think if that looks okay, then the backup camera would be sufficient. I have a backup cam on a Honda minivan and it's far from stellar, but when the lens is clean it's certainly sufficient.
If the nav had a "split-screen" and we could install 2 lipstick cameras (anywhere),and the nav DVD could record, then I'd be up for some trackdays. Nothing like making your own SPEEDTV...
Isnt this mostly for parallel parking?
I hope you're not parallel parking the vette that much that it requires this..
I drive mine as a daily driver. I park it all the time (mostly Parallel). Never had an issue, but having a camera when I back out of my garage and driveway would be helpful with all of the kids in the neighborhood.
I have found one on the sight mentioned earlier. (tvandnav2go.com)
They need my radio shipped to do the conversion. It seems thay have to reprogram the head. It gives me 2 ports to access the screen. One for the camera and one for DVD, or computer, etc. Looks like it might work well. Hate sending any part of my vette to anyone, But!.
