The A6 wont shift from neutral to R or Park. It will just go between N and D not even down to S. Good thing it happened in the garage. Got a call earlier
gottem stumped. Anyone else hear of this

My not quite one week old C6 coupe did the same thing Wednesday. I was able to get Drive, Neutral, and Reverse, but no S or Park. I planned to nurse it until I could get it to the dealer yesterday evening, but my battery was sucked dry by yesterday afternoon. I did manage to start it as the wrecker drove up and took it in to dealership where it is awaiting a battery and, I assume, a new shifter. In addition since the battery was sucked down it eill need the fobs reprogrammed and the TPMS system reset. I'll let you know what they tell me when they pull the shifter as to what caused the lock-up. I wonder if our shifters were put in by the same guy?
Good assumption there, mine came in from the factory
4-18 and picked it up that afternoon. So sounds like
they are close in run time. The dealership got a flat
bed to the house in a couple of hours. So the battery
may still be good if they didnt let it sit till tomorrow.
The DIC kept saying shift to park, radio light was
on as was the blicking red and yellow on the iginition.
dealer just called -- all said was shifter is locked, something broke
inside. They are going to overnight a part in Monday for Tuesday.
Might see the car wednesday
That's good to hear. I hope mine is back that quickly. Let me know if they tell you anything more specific. I hope this solves the problem permanently.
Who's your dealer? I'd like to be able to put mine in touch with them Monday morning, so they don't spend hours diagnosing the problem. I'll bet we have the identical problem as mine initially wouldn't get R either. I was able to pop it into R without too much trouble, but no way to get P or S. It literally felt locked out of those positions. Thanks
I haven't had any problems with my A6 and after driving the A4 first, I sure am glad that I waited seven more months until the the 2006's came out. What a blast to drive an automatic and up and down shift it without taking your hands off the steering wheel!!
One of the reasons I didn't wait for this new A-6 instead I will go with the heavy duty A-4.
Actually as far as power ratings, strength and technology go that heavy duty A4 is FAR behind the A6 but obviously there are going to be at least some teething problems with such an overwhelmingly superior upgrade as this. Same stuff happened back when going to the electronic A4s from the mechanical ones and from the A3s to the A4s and so on...

I dont know what exactly is going on. If could just get out of the car
and find another one would suit me. Not going to feel comfortable
driving this one for a long time now. So Robert I dont know what
has all gone wrong with a 150 mile car. How is yours coming
along
