Default Removing MAF Screens

Would it help airflow to remove the MAF screens???? If so, how do you do it?

yes it would but not enough to feel it or maybe even show up in a dyno graph. You basically pry it out with a flathead driver. I wouldnt suggest doing it

No need to do that, you get enough air.
Thats what I hear anyway

You will not gain anything! With the screen in the MAF will allow more air flow then the stock LS2 needs.

yes it will help increase airflow but at the cost of potentially adding turbulance. the maf doesn't like alot of turbulance.

GM put the screens there for a reason.
Also, there would be more air flow descreened; but only a modified engine would need that extra air flow The screened MAF gives enough air for a normal engine.

GM has gone back and fourth on this. I had the screen on my 99, the 01 LS6 comes out with no screen. So all the LS1 guys start ripping out their screens. I did too. Didn't notice any gain. Now the LS2 has the screen and folks want to rip it out.

I'm not fooling with it.

Remove MAF screen on C6 and you can expect CEL from posts I have read.

Hey yall, this is my first post and hope its informative. I'm finally a proud member of Corvette Forum!

I would leave the screen in. In windtunnels they use a honeycomb design to even the airflow equally throughout the diameter of the tunnel. To me it gives the engine a chance to be a well rounded and predictable powerplant with reliable air flow to each port. Not-to-mention the MAF sensor.

I heard stories where removal of the screen on a late C5 ZO6 resulted in unpredictable hp levels on the dyno from run to run.

Do not do this, the screen is not a screen for debris, it is the straighten out the airflow.

NO!! The MAF screen is there to help straighten and remove turbulance from the air flow into the intake--this helps to insure an even distribution of air to all the cylinders.
IMO you should be focusing on getting cool ambient air into the intake(each 10 degree drop in temperature is 1 hp---typical under the hood temperatures are 200 degrees F, while ambient temps are much less). An example of a simple product that helps this situation is the Vett Doc's Air Charger, however, it has a heavy Corvette tax($300 for a shaped piece of plastic and a template for cutting a hole in the radiator schroud for ambient air access). This is worth 10 to 15 hp on typical days.

Here's a different application, but it shows what a screen can do to reduce turbulance.
