Default Mass Air Flow Sensor

I have a 05' LMB Z51 with a Corsa Touring install and BP Vortex Ram Air Induction. I removed the screen on the MAF as instructed and the car is running great. I figured my next insane idea was to get it tuned. Well, the tuner told me I should either get a new MAF or try to put the screen back on. This is needed for the best tune. He said it had something to do with the flow at idle and then at WOT.

My question, do I really need this screen? Anyone know why there is even one on it? More air more power? So, I thought. Help?

Ok before I get flamed!!!! I know a Cobra is different from a corvette. That being said when I installed my CAI I removed the screen which I was told is there to prevent large pieces from entering the MAF. Since the sensor is so small and senitive, I haven't had any problems.

I would have to agree with your tuner. The screen is there to straighten out the air flow before passing accross the elements in the MAF. With the screen removed the tuning is harder, due to the inaccuracy of the air flow in the MAF. The tuner is trying to make it easier on himself but tuning can be done without the screen but with a level of difficulty.

Tuner just wants to tune your wide-open-throttle. To properly tune part-throttle operation, you either need the MAF left stock, or they need to spend some time re-scaling the table. If really shouldn't take much work, but I guess they just don't want to deal with it.

Get LS2edit, HPTuners, etc, and do it yourself!
