And that question is how do you get traction? I know DR's on the strip, but how about on the street? I jumped on my A4/3.15 in 70 degree temps and spun and slightly fishtailed from 0 to 70--tc/ah off. Some of you guys making outrageous rwhp must have to really feather that power on and then it brings me to wonder what is the point of adding the power[and spending to do so] if the ''weaklink'' tires cannot handle it.Any secrets or tire recomendations????????
Since no one makes a DR in 19' (yet), and I can't fit 18's over my Z06 brake setup...
I'm running Bridgestone RE050A's in 305/30 on the rear right now. Compared to the GY GS-2's, these hook MUCH BETTER with my current mod setup than the GS-2's or the SC's. At a 140 Treadwear rating, I'm only wondering how long they'll last - but since they rarely break loose in normal hot-foot driving (forget about hard launches with my setup) I should get similar mileage to the SC's or PS/2's.
If it's going to be a street car with big HP/TQ Then live with the tire problem. Those tires spinning is what saves your drive train. If on the other hand you're looking for a drag car/street car and you want great 1/4 mile times, then yes DR's,different shocks etc. You start hooking up with big power; you'll start breaking things. you'll need to strengthen everything in the drive train or get use to replacing parts. It's just the way it is. My car makes 461RWHP that's 542 at the crank, and there's cars with alot more than mine. If I put DR's on mine and hooked it up at a strip I'm sure that things would go boom..So my car will never see a 1/4 mile track. That's OK it's a street car you know, stoplight to stoplight or a roll on the highway. That's what's fun to me.

Then you have been spinning them more then me. I actually like spinning and fishtailing and correcting with the steering---it's a whole lot of fun. My car is faster then the 12.74 I turned last year--I can truly feel it is a 12.5 car with just enough traction to keep it pointed straight. But adding 50/75/100 more ponies would be diminishing returns in many respects. I wouldn't be able to tap it unless I was rolling, which is fine, but would hate to get dusted from a stoplight with a lesser car who could hook and go.BTW, GREAT TIMES.

I think that all of us have done the passing someone sideways as we smoke them thing. We all have very capable cars & heating the rears is a royal pain
I want to be able just to mash it and go (but I don't want drag radials been there done that) What we all really need is a stealth tire. a really sticky compound that is also good in the rain, and will last much longer than a drag radial on the street. Yea, I know I'm asking for the moon! Maybe it is time to rattle the cages of those tire engineers at Goodyear

your right Tommy. but at 26lbs road warm or sun out tires warm from driving the z51 tires very good tracton. won a lot of take off's

The tires are most definitly the weak link. There are times when the roads appear clean and warm enough that I think i'll get traction and I don't.And conversely there are times when the cold temps make me wary and I get decent traction. Fact is ,I just don't know what to expect. I have kicked down to 2nd in the A4 AT 70 a couple of times and thrown the backend out. Having this kind of power on such a ''marginal'' tire makes it interesting but also unsettling. Also there is a Jekkle/Hyde nature of the LS2. Sometimes the engine just seems to make more power then others and i'm talking significant power that you can feel. Yes I do often bring this upon myself by turning off tc/ah. I also like to mash the pedal and go, but on standard runflats there is no way I would want to mod to make this car more scary. When I turned a 12.74 last year it was my first time at the strip in 30 years and I was frankly scared and rather passive. Now the car seems faster. I would suspect that a younger more experienced guy in the right conditions could knock down some outstanding times for an a4--it is a 1sx with the only option being the 3.15, so it is the lightest c6 a4 made by GM. The 12.48 on the list could be in jeopardy with the right driver. Any volenteers?

Hey Dennis...... I have heard the same from guys with Z51's at the track but they are not too happy with their performance in the rain. Has that also been your experience? I am thinking once my runcraps are gone I'm going for a set of 06 Z06 rims and tires.............unless goodyear comes out with something better in a runflat

bigger rubber is the best bet. but until then, go with a nice set of PSport2's. my car became an entirely new stuck-to-the-road-animal when i fitted her with these shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions........... I am interested in the Z06 tires because they have a softer compound and are supposed to be better than the Z51 tires in the rain.
Much wider tires would require me to change the tire loading in the rear to get the desired better traction.
