Default 2006 Corvette LS6 troubles...

I have a problem...
My friend has an engine shop here in Israel.. (Yeah i am from Israel)

And a guy drove in today with a 2006 Corvette LS6.
The drive belt kept jumping out of the pullyes... Untill we figures out the problem..

The engine pulley was getting loose and it pulled out about 50mm forward.. enough to make the belt jump out of the engine..
We torqued the bolts and it got loose again....

It seems the pulley cracked or something.. Is that a common problem with these engines???
How much do i have to torque the bolts? how much do they torque them form the factory?

Anybody else heard about this problem or is this a 1 time thingy that if we will switch the pully it would be alright??

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Was this an LS6??? or an LS2?
The LS2 has a service notice out for improperly torqued Crank shaft pulley bolts which can result in the bolt backing out and the pully comming loose...
A new bolt and washer must be installed and retorqued.
Check the FAQs section and good luck....

Default Replace the entire unit

Replace the idler. It's the mechinism that is spring loaded and the idler pulley is attached to. It's what gives tension to the belt. Don't even try and fix it just replace it. To be on the safe side check your other pulley
alignments just in case another one is off. That should do it.

Do Not Re-torque The Bolt. You Must Use A New Crank Bolt Every Time You Take It Off!!!!!

If I recall the bolts must be torqued to right around 270 footlbs of torque and the bolts MUST ALWAYS BE REPLACED. Another good idea is to pin the crank pulley on any LS series engine for the same reason as what you have right there.

don't replace the idle pulley, you will be wasting you time and money...tensioner pulley will not caused the crank pulley to move forward 5 cm...if the car is 2006 then it is ls2 not ls6....according to the service bullet this issue that you are describing should only affect 2005 model only, not 2006......it would,'t hurt to replace the crank pulley bolt like most have suggested and retorque to factory spec....i do believe it is some > 200 lb #...i don't have my service manual yet, so can't confirm for you. good luck.
