Default CAM HELP for C6, PLEASE!

Guys, I don't want to spend all that money on the FAST intake setup (yet) when I can get about as much power for a little over half the price by getting a cam.

For an '05 C6, please, and don't say "it depends", which cam should I get to add a good 20RWHP? I don't want it to idle too hard and I don't want to have to change internals or the rest of the car to make it work. As stated in another post, I already have the Vararam Snake Charmer and the Dynatech Headers/Cats/X-pipe ehaust with Magnaflow mufflers. I just want to break the 400RWHP barrier.

What do you think about the G5X3 114? Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough but I haven't found it for the LS2. Other suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check out lgmotorsports.com and then give Anthony a call. LG has a nice selction of cams and will guide you to one that is right for your setup.

I had the TSP 224R (comp 224 XER) on my 01 Z28. This is known as the right down the middle of the road cam for an LS1. 224 exh/int duration, .581 lift and 112 LSA. It idled OK, but certainly not like stock. This would be a little milder cam for a larger motor like the LS2. You would easily be over 400 rwhp with your setup. If you have an Auto or just want a smoother idle, go with the 114 LSA.

I had the Thunder Racing 224 cam (on a 112 lsa) in my '00 TA. sure as hell didn't idle stock, but I gained power from off idle to redline. made a huge difference. before the cam, you could actually floor the car in 1st gear. after? you'd just go sideways instantly.

Thunder Racing CheaTR cam would be exactly what your looking for. Over 400 stock idle and stock drivability.

my deepest apologies for my ignorance in advance...but WTF do TA and camaro cams have to do with a recommendation for a good cam swap in a C6?

i am interested in the exact same thing as the original poster, but i didnt find one useful piece of information in any of the responses so far. does anyone have experience with cam swaps in a C6 upon which an informed recommendation can be made? TIA

Default I've swaped 2 cams so far in my C6

LS1,LS2,or LS6 the cams are all the same, Interchangeable. First, what does 224/228 mean? the cam activates the valves to open and close them for a certain length of time. So, Intake valve duration is always listed first and then the exhaust. The length of time a valve is opened is measured in degrees of rotation. 224 degrees of intake duration is the amount of time the intake valve can flow fuel and air into the combustion chamber, same for exhaust duration. It's the amount of time the exhaust valve has to empty the chamber of spent gases. notice the exhaust durations are usually longer than the intake. This makes up for resistance or back pressure and smaller port size. It also helps in the filling of the incomming charge. Lift is the depth that the valve drops into the cylinder, and LSA is the lobe separation angle; It's the degrees between the intake lobe and the exhaust lobe ground into the cam. All of these factors must be considered before making a cam selection. It seems that the 224/228/581/588/114 camis a great mid size street cam. Meaning low end torque is not hurt much, topend power is good and the idle quality has only a slight lope at 900rpms. My car is a daily driver, so I choose this cam for my car. It works very well throught the entire rpm range. With the other mods I have done My C6 Z51 6sp It's currently making 461RWHP/435RWTQ Which equates to 542 HP/511 lb-ft of TQ at the flywheel or crank. In addition I still get 29.4 mpg @ 70 mph highway. It's kinda the best of both worlds. I'm sure I could have made more power, but at what cost in drivablity? Also, I didn't feel good about pushing the stock block internals to the limit. I need the the car the live a good long life. So I gave up a little power for some piece of mind. Anyway that's what I choose to do. Good luck with your cam selection. Hope this info helps.

Yes the cam would work great. Check out June's vette mag. page 52. It's titled supercar in Sheep's clothing. The car's an auto, and they did put a looser converter in the trans. It was a 3200-3600 rpm stall. Car made 443rwhp with an auto. That's still around 540 crank HP using an 18% loss of the auto. Great street set up though.

Awesome post, man. Thanks a lot. From calls I've made and from what I gathered from your post, I believe I'll go the Thunder's 224/114 cam. They say it adds between 30 - 35 to the wheel and has a nice idle.

461RWHP??? What other mods?

Thunders 224 cam isnt the same due to another spec not mentioned: ramp rate. Get an xer cam from any vendor 224/228 or 224/230 from lingenfelter for 359 plus shpping.

Thanks, SpinMonster. I'll look into that. Not a bad price at all. How much power, BTW?
