i've always loved bimmers. but my tastes have matured and changed a bit since becoming a corvette owner. i crave torque!!! and so now i lust after the AMG mercs. those things are torque MONSTERS!!!! if the C6 ever becomes too inconvenient as a daily driver...its off to the merc dealer for a brand new E55
did i just say i would get rid of my C6 in favor of a 4 door sedan? SHAH!!! AS IF!!!
but that E55 is still damned TASTY!!!!

Testing was apparently done in Germany, as opposed to Road & Track's normal stateside test location. Note that the full 500 HP is only available temporarily.

I dont think its the 500 HP thats availbale temporarily, its the launch mode. The 500 HP can be switched at anytime with a button.

Not its not availble temporarily. You cant use the launch mode until like 2500 miles or something, then you have to go to the dealership and they turn it on for you.

I have removed my limiter and I have toped 200mph in my M5 and a C6 comes no where close.

I seriously doubt that a M5 has a higher top speed than a C6-Z06.

My late 80's INLINE 6! grey market M5 Alpina, (they were all black exterior/beige leather back then), after the full Dinan package, filled my rearview mirror with Porches and American V8s. Rock steady to 175. Apparently this hasn't changed.

IMO, I does'nt sound right that a 500hp M5 heavy sedan can beat a 505hp Z06 which is a hell of a lot lighter and less wind resistant. Even if the M5 is faster at top end it is still 6/10 of a second slower than the Z06 in a Quarter mile run and thats a big difference. I believe if BMW made a luxury sedan that eclipes 200 mph it would have an MSRP well above $100K.
From literature that I have read the M5 and regular corvette coupes have always been neck and neck in performance numbers over the years.

Because I have no direct experience, and none of the mags has tested one without the limiter, we (including me) are speculating. Just seems a bit much to me.

I know that there are an awful lot of "urban legends" that are just that. 200mph takes a hell of a lot of hp and aerodynamics (which includes frontal area).

not really there are numerous vids of the M5 going 200 mph. do a search. There is more to going fast than just aerodynamics. In fact at 200+ mph a heavier car is better to resist lift.
And have you ever heard of a chip, or program that removes the limter?
Dont worry the it will take the m5 a long time to run down the Z at that point. but the top end is faster on the m5 face it.
