Want to put headers on and local area performance installer suggests Melrose. Anyone have these and like them. I saw a set and they look pretty nice. They are coated and appear ready to install. Do they liven up the sound?
Do a search, as there have been several recent threads on this subject. You can buy ceramic coated Melrose headers direct from Jet Hot. Several tuners use them, claim 20 to 25 HP gains. The tubes are not quite as long as some others, so mid-range TQ gains may not be as high as say LG's or Kooks. Quality of welds, finish, and appearance is good. Price is also good, especially since they come coated.
I have a full exhaust system on order thru a local corvette shop and hope to have them installed on Friday-can't wait! I saw a 2006 A6 with this same exhaust system and it looked GREAT! However, this car still had on the stock mufflers and it was on the quiet side. But, all I heard was the car at an idle as he drove past me in a parking lot at a show. In fact, I currently have the Corsa Sports on and plan to have my stock mufflers on hand during the exhaust system install on Friday IN CASE THE SYSTEM IS TOO LOUD with the Corsa's. If it is, I will have the shop re-install the stock mufflers and sell the Corsa mufflers and x-pipe-the Corsa x-pipe won't fit the new exhaust system to be installed Friday.
I expect it to be a fine system and look forward to it's install.
Well, had the Melrose headers installed with the hi-flo cats and new x-pipe, but unfortunately, the system was too loud for me with the corsa sports on and decided then and there to reinstall the OEM mufflers. It quieted it down quite alot but still louder than the FULL OEM system. Now it sounds like the engine breathes ALOT better and "something" has been done to the engine?!! I liked the corsa sports with the corsa x-pipe sound but now I have to get used to a system a little more quiet but has more of a race car sound. I think I will really get to like the new system once I get used to it. Also, I read somewhere on the forum that the computer has to relearn itself when you install headers and that its not a good idea to have the car dyno-tuned right after a header install. this gives the computer time to re-learn with the headers on.
So far so good.
Had the Melrose headers, hi-flo cats from Random Tech and the x-pipe installed with the Corsa's at first and guess what? TOO DAMN LOUD! Of all the luck. Decided to re-install the OEM mufflers and it sounds a bit too quiet now. Probably cause I'm used to the Corsa Sports for the last 8 months and I need just a little time to "re-adjust" to the quiet-er sound it now makes-mind you, it is still louder than stock and it just sounds like it has had "something" done to the engine. Unfortunately, tonite I started hearing a fairly noticable "rattle" coming from the pipes underneath-almost sounds like its coming from the right side of the car(underneath, of course) so I have to call the install team to advise them I need to bring it back to re-tighten whatever it is loose under there. But no complaints otherwise. and Auto XTC in Clearwater, FL, who did the work on my car, was very professional thruout this whole transaction. Price was very fair and I most definitely NOT overcharged for anything. John, the install technician, was very careful and went out his way to go the extra mile in the installation.

Put the Melrose headers and Random Tech Cats on about 2 month ago. Had it dyno tunes and go 365 hp at the wheels. Also, have cold air intake, polished throttle body and mod. MAFS and Corsa Indy system. sound is great at idle and cruise, but WOT it sets off alarms, scares kids. Great system. Did you install myself had to drop steer shaft and just up motor on drivers side to get the in.

I am a little confused, I thought that with about a 15% drivetrain loss on an automatic you would have about 340 rwhp. So all that only nets 25 rwhp?
Lets see in the last week I have seen a handful of threads about Melrose headers, if I do a search just in this forum alone I get two pages worth....Come on guys use the search feature
I have Melrose Headers, Random Cats , and Factory Catbacks. I like them and they look super. Stay away from BandB's Route 66 Catbacks....severe drone from 1600-2000 rpms. That mistake was money down the drain.
Just an update on the Melrose header install: took the car back to Auto XTC this afternoon and John and Larry's son, Brad, took care of the rattle in about 20-30 minutes, at most. They did an excellent job and fixed this right the first time, no questions asked. Again, I couldn't be more happy with this aftermarket Corvette shop-Auto XTC-these guys have their hearts in the right place and as I said before, go the extra mile to do the job the RIGHT WAY!
Highly recommend them and by the way, their prices are not hard to live with either. They will work with you any way they can-even if its to your benefit!
Ciao...

If you don't want to read the post then pass on it. Some of us like reading what is going on. Some people take more time to tell people to do a search than to either make something useful to the thread. I for one like reading what is going on with results of new installs. And let me add that thanks to this post we were able to hear more about PurpleHearts Melrose install.
Thank you, N.C.B.A.V.F.M. and for that, just another recent and more current update: The car is just so sweet without some of the noise. Haven't gotten on it yet but it sounds SO SWEET while idling and just cruising down the road. Also going to a local cruise-in tomorrow night (Monday) and a local Chili's in Clearwater of guys and gals from the CF who live locally(of course) at 7 pm by Pewter99(Robert). Can't wait to "show" the car with the system of course and just to talk corvettes with everyone. Also got some more info from boosted_z06 about how to "reset" the computer to help speed up the PCM relearn.
Take care all and, seeya!

This is what the forum is all about. Listen to people rather you like it or not. PurpleHeart is only telling us about his car, keeping us posted as we asked, and the results. It's nice to here from different people with different results and opinions on the C6's. Just my $.02.
