Default Rotating MAF

I've searched and found threads on rotating the mass air flow sensor but no pics and no mention of the plastic positioning tab. I pulled the Honker loose last night and tried to rotate the MAF but found the plastic tab that fits in the slot on the rubber coupler does not lay flat and therefore will not seal properly in its "new" rotated position. What am I missing? Thanks in advance! Chris

Callaway strongly recommends that you do not rotate the mass air flow sensor. The molded parts are slotted to allow you to align the parts properly. The orientation of the maf sensor in relation to the throttle plate is critical, as you suggest. Honker design and development included determining the optimum orientation. Rotating the maf sensor will result in reduced performance and possible DTC's.

it can be done with out any trouble, but I could not prove it did anything for performance.

My gut is to leave it alone after looking at things closer but so many posts claim a SOTP improvement. The position of the rotated MAF would then line up with the butterfly on the TB=smoother air flow. Any insight on that theory? My question, though not actually stated this way is, what did those that did this mod do with the tab to ensure a tight seal? Thanks to all for the replies. Chris

i9have a cold air kit installed that does not have a cut out for that tab so it really did not matter. if you make sure the clamp is tght you will be fine. if it leaks at all you will get a cel

can you elaborate ? are you referring to the orientation of "top and bottom - the two reistors vs the one resistor". there are three resistors in the maf. one side (top ?) of the diffusor has two and the other (bottom ?) has one. in the stock alignment there are to resistors on one side, left, and one resistor to the right. by rotating the maf to align the internal air diffusor with the throttle body butterfly you simply rotate the resistors to the top and bottom instead of to the left and right.

i used a rubber joint from home depot as a replacement for the stock bellows. you should be able to find one at an aftermarket shop.

agreed, you will need to replace the stock bellows in order to get a proper seal. the rotated position i've been using has the maf rotated so the 'delphi' module is square on top.
