i juist got my underdrive pulley. just wondering if anyone has done this yet. i know, iknow i have to move the steering rack and should do a cam while i am at it but i got it for half price and i have had a pulley on my trans am and it made a big diffrence so i want it on now not when i drop another 1k in the car. so any help, tips or install guides on doing this. i bought a manual on dvd as someof youmay know but it ended up being a rip off and did not work. we will see they are sending another one but it is still a burnt dvd!!!
When LG did my pulley and cam swap they had to pull the radiator and shroud plus the steering rack and water pump. Pulling the steering means taking off the fron wheels etc. etc.. I originally was just going cam untill i saw what it would take to add the pulley later. Sure would be nice to swap the cam while you already have it torn down because you basically have to do the same stuff to swap pulley out. You may be able to leave the water pump alone for just a pulley change.
If you are paying someone to do it, then wait. The cost will not justify the gains. It will cost you a coulpe hundred dollars in labor to do the job. When you do a cam swap labor is free for the pulley since it comes off anyway. It is not a difficult job, just time consuming.
It spins your belt-driven accessories slower, so there is less parasitic loss. Net gain = 2-5rwhp.
Not only does it spin the acc'y slower, but it has less rotating inertia so it doesn't absorb as much energy to spin it up. Just like putting a lightweight flywheel on your car.
i will be doing is so it not a cost issue and i got the time so that not really a problem either. just worried about the sterring rack movemnet is that a big deal or no
