I'm one of those with an '06 MN6 with telescoping steering wheel who keeps getting the "Service Active Handling" message. It has gotten to where I can make it happen, just by turning hard left then hard right. I read all the stuff on this forum I could find via "Search" and found that the connector in the steering wheel column seemed to be the culprit. I printed many of the comments from other posts and took it to my nearest Chevy dealer. He looked up my car's VIN and said, "Atlantic City" (I bought it from Kerbeck in Atlantic City and I was in Griffin, GA at a local dealer) and then wouldn't look up the Bulletin. He said my car didn't have any campaigns and that I'd have to leave it with them to test drive and check for codes. Reasonable, but I did not leave it but may go back when I have more time. My visit was just to see if they could find the bulletin, but he wouldn't try, even with the number. On the way home I got to thinking... if the problem is that the cable is too short or gets pushed against the column some how when telescoping in and out with the memory function, why not try using the steering wheel at less than "all the way out" position. I moved it back towards the instrument panel about 1/4 inch, saved it in memory, and have had no more problems. I still intend to get it fixed and realize each car may be slightly different, but in my case this seems to be a good, although temporary, workaround. So, if you have the same problem, try it and see if it works for you. If so, please post so we can see if it is more useful to a wider audience than just my particular case.
I just brought my 05 to the dealer this morning for the same thing.
Last night, the "Service traction control, reduced power" came on.
This is the 3rd time this has happened in the past year and 2 different dealers say there is no code (of course, the car has returned to normal when the car gets into the dealer)
As far as the steering wheel goes, my situtaion does not support your theory. I always keep the wheel closest to the dash, and so I dont think it ever moves. I really hope they figure it out this time....
Ill keep you posted...
About the TSB - does it exist or not??\
someone please post it...

I had that happen (Service Traction Control Reduced Power). What were you doing when it happened
Well i picked up the car from the dealer last night. and they said they couldnt reproduce any "hard codes" and so they wouldnt do anything with the car. in the meanwhile, the engine light was on. so they cleared it, but wouldnt tell me what codes were in there.... ill be writing a letter to the owner of the dealership and GM cust service. not only for this instance, but several other issues, such as them scratching up my rims and denying any liability.
I thought there was a TBS on this subject -- essentially the act of telescoping the wheel causes a wire to work loose and activate the Service Active Handling error. The fix is to take apart the column and "tape" the contact back into position.
I got the service active handling syndrome! just driving down the road and it started, happened all morning and then stopped this afternoon I hate glitches. Is there a TSB on this issue? I will bring the car to the dealer AFTER the sunny holiday weekend I will see what happens next week, and post if anything usefull or helpfull happens

Yours could be the same problem I have. If my car sits for an extended period I will get the service active handling message unless I charge the battery before I drive it. It seems as though anything under around 12.3 volts and it happens. Mine does not store any codes nor does it go into reduced power mode.
This past weekend I took the car out for the first time in about a month and only charged it for about an hour before leaving. I had the service active handling message until I had driven roughly 2 hours. Once I made it home I charged the battery back up and no more message.
As a chevy tech, and having performed the repair a dozen of times the TSB does exist. It's a quick 10 min fix if that. The code that sets is Code c710 sym 1f or sym 00.

What is the quick fix so I can take this to my dealer when I go next week so they dont tell me "we cant reproduce it and there is nothing wrong"?
if a code 710 is stored in history, the repair directions from the TSB should only take 10 or so mins. The dealer can search for the TSB through -Dealerworld- website. All dealers should have access to this.
